Presque Isle Park is a great public park, located entirely within the Marquette City limits. There are so many ways to experience the park, in any season. There is a one-way driving road which circles the perimeter of the park and offers glimpses of wildlife and the Lake Superior shoreline, including beautiful sunsets.There is also a trail which encircles the perimeter of the peninsula, which can be walked or biked. You may have to go off the trails (and be careful, some of the cliffs are steep) but you can make your way out onto some beautiful rock formations. A little further along, there's a spot that the locals call "black rocks." These are a fairly large formation of rocks that include a stretch of cliffs that people often jump off of. The water is cold, but deep and the cliffs are fairly safe as long as you can swim and you avoid them on stormy or choppy days. In the winter, the road is closed to motor vehicles, but the park can still be (legally) accessed on foot. It's a great place for a winter hike, snowshoe, or skiing trip. It is rare to leave Presque Isle in any season without seeing some kind of wildlife, whether it be deer, raccoons, birds, etc. There are several coves along the shoreline of the island, and in many you can find agates and other beautiful stones. There are also several picnic areas, outdoor grills, a gazebo, a band shell, concession stands, a children's park, public restrooms, and an events facility (which must be rented in advance). It is truly a great outdoor location for people of all ages.

We visited the park on a very calm day, and again on a very windy day. It made our experiences feel totally different. There is a brake water that you can walk partly out on, or all the way to the end. On the calm day, I made it out fairly far. On the windy day, my family made it all the way, chicken me only went a 1/4 of the way. Sometimes due to weather conditions, they have to close it. There is a road that with a car, you can drive around the perimeter of the park. In the winter they close off the road. While driving the perimeter, there are many places you can park and walk out on the bluffs. Our favorite parking and walking spot was maybe about a third of the way on the way up where it was a sharp right turn down into a parking lot that we almost missed seeing. We also saw boys diving off the cliffs. You can bike the park too. On Saturdays, it is not unusual to see several wedding parties. Dependent on you, the experience can take anywhere from a half hour to several hours. Take a camera. On the way out, after the park, on the right side, there is also 3 shops that have very nice crafts for sale. The shop on the far right explains how he makes his crafts.

I love Presque Isle. It is like no other place on Earth I have ever been. The beautiful hiking trails along the shores of Superior and through the forests, the cliff, rock climbing, cliff diving, beautiful little coves where people are swimming in summer despite Superior' coldness. Lake Superior is crystal clear. You can see directly to the bottom - as clear as tap water. While it's nice to be able to drive along through the park DO get out. Park your car, take a trail, look out onto the vistas of Lake Superior. There is stop (small area to park) where its noted for Sunsets. It's spectular anytime but if you catch the sunset there it's amazing. If you follow the trails from this stop it leads you to Black Rocks. It's hard to describe. Vast miles of flat and not flat black rocks that end right the lake. I love this place with all my heart. My husband was stationed for work in Marquette for several months we were at Presque Isle nearly ever day (and it's FREE). The church we attended while there even had an outdoor service there. Beautiful, beautiful. Captured my heart. We have visited here all season (except winter when it's closed) May through November. Beautiful in all seasons

Presque Isle is a great park right in town. There are trails throughout the park or you can drive around the parimeter. nice to see all the deer are back

Lots to do on Presque Isle! Here's the list of what I can think of: boating, picnics, children's park, ice cream vendor, Moosewood Nature Center, swimming, rock skipping, cliff jumping, kayaking, hiking, biking, running, deer watching, and lots of smiling! Love this place.

This is one of the top scenic locations on Lake Superior. The two mile drive around "the Island" as it's known locally gives you access to shoreline vistas and hidden coves. Lots on natural beauty. Picnic areas and an ice cream store in the summer. Good place to watch for Great Lakes freighters.
