A castle that is still a home so it is well maintained and well worth a visit. Some of the portraits and history of the ancestors leave you in no doubt as to why the ended up with a castle. Take a look.

Arundel Castle was begun on Christmas Day in 1067, but, for a garden-lover, the New CollectorEarl's Garden, which was opened in 2008, is the highlight at Arundel. Various tours of the Castle are offered, but the Castle has a bit of a theme-park feel. Better to spend your time enjoying the delightful and tranquil Collector Earl's Garden. Designed by Isabel and Julian Bannerman, the New garden features fountains, a labyrinth, pools, grottoes, loggias, and ornaments and pavilions that are done in the classical style, but carved out of green oak (wood which ages to the hardness of rock). There's also a Stumpery: a section of the garden where massive tree roots are upended and used in lieu of sculptures in wild and wooly garden beds, alongside towering 12 foot tall Tree Echium plants. All-in-all, the New Collector Earl's Garden is an enormously beautiful and FUN place in which to linger for an hour.

I've been to this castle twice and each visit was an excellent experience. The castle itself is beautiful with the small cathedral within the castle being my favorite room. They have a cafeteria within the castle for a quick bite. Wondering the grounds and gardens around the castle was worth the time spent.

A wonderful attraction that serves as the focal point of Arundel. Stunning gardens too that compliments the sheer spectacle of the castle. Definitely visit.

Arundel castle is a exceptional piece of architecture that dominates the skyline of Arundel along with the Cathedral. There is a lot to see and do. If you do not have a lot of time, then the bronze ticket is perfect as that takes in the castle grounds and gardens, the Fitzalan Chapel, Restaurant, Shop and café. The best value ticket is the Gold Plus which does all of the grounds, chapel, café, restaurant and shop, and all of the interior of the castle including the bedrooms. If you buy a gold ticket, then you will have to pay a extra £2 to go up the grand staircase to see the bedrooms. There are buggies that take people up to the entrance to the castle where there is a ramp for people with scooters. Inside there is a lift that takes people up to the where the castle opens out to the rooms. There are guides in every room and the Fitzalan chapel that will answer your questions about the castle. This is a perfect place for anyone wanting to look inside a castle where the Dukes of Norfolk and his family still live and learn more about their history. The grounds are wonderfully laid out and are a delight to wonder around. Perfect for anyone who is in to gardens. In the gardens there is Philip's Zoo for the young children to see goats, chickens, birds, and meerkats. There are a variety of events throughout the year that take place at Arundel Castle, the most famous being the Joust Week that take place in the last week of July - of which only gold plus tickets are available during this week.

A good day out but you should be fit to take full advantage. On a warm sunny Spring day full advantage of the gardens can be taken and a picnic in the castle grounds would be perfect but take your rubbish home!

Very interesting castle that dominates the Arundel skyline, beautiful inside and out, could spend all day there.

Was here with a fairly severely handicapped friend towards the end of the visiting season last autumn. On arrival it seemed quite expensive and as we only had a couple of hours available decided to buy the Bronze ticket, which covers all the gardens and grounds, the shop, café and restaurant, and the Fitzalan Chapel. We'll certainly be returning (this attraction reopens on 28th March but is closed on Mondays other than August Bank Holiday) and it will be for the Gold ticket (which also covers the castle interiors) or perhaps even the Season Ticket, which is valid for a year from purchase but doesn't include the castle interiors. The site is on a slope but for those with limited mobility there is a passenger buggy to get you up or down the hill. The gardens were very attractive and interesting, even in October. Most impressive was the 'Collector Earl's Garden', a relatively new addition in memory of a 17th Century Earl of Arundel. The gothic Fitzalan Chapel is an atmospheric place with interesting carved stone tombs of the Dukes of Norfolk. The shop, café and restaurant are situated upstairs in the main castle and there is a lift.Very much looking forward to revisiting and seeing the castle interiors.
