Unfortunately if you don't speak Spanish you aren't going to get much from a lot of the displays. But on the top floor there are some modern art corridors, satirical cartoons and displays on Bogota's recent history that we could yield a little more information from. And anything we did understand was really, really interesting. The building is pretty cool too. Don't miss the excellent National Museum in Bogota. The Museum provides an imaginative mix of history and art, displayed in a manner that makes the history come alive for the visitor.

The building used to be a prison, thus the exterior is very interesting. But, the interior of this museum needs organization. Either arrangement by centuries, townships, or religions. Instead, the collection appears to be arranged haphazardly. After 45 minutes we left!

The area is nice and the building is historical but what was in the building was not that impressive. It is free and glad I went but the other museums in the area are much better.

This is a very interesting building. Formerly it was a prison, and you can still see its ancestry in some of the galleries. The museum is undergoing a major transformation. The first part is the newish Memoria y Nacion (Memory and Nation). It is a new way to display the museum's artifacts to show the history and diversity of the country. It is full of fascinating video and interactive displays juxtaposed with some of the museum's collection. Other galleries house the museum's impressive art collection.

The Museo Nacional is located in an old and austere looking prison... and the architecture may be one of the best things about a visit. There was very little info available in English (large, laminated boards are sometimes found at gallery entrances, but they are limited.). We walked through many of the galleries quickly, glimpsing portraits of aristocrats, ancient pottery, furniture and armaments. A last minute decision to go to the third floor was inspired - because it was there we found galleries of modern art and sculptures - well worth the trek up the stairs. The cross-shaped building is fascinating, with lots of interior light, and the small rooms with photos of what it looked like during the prison years were fascinating. The courtyard is lovely, and benches welcomed sitting for while and listening to the fountain, all while imagining the hundred years earlier.

It's a nice museum, but hardly any of it is in English, so unless you can understand Spanish you might find it boring. They do have free English tours on Wednesdays at 4pm though.It's interesting enough and is in an old prison so that's cool. It's worth a walk around, give yourself at least 2 hours to see it unless you want to read and look at every single little thing.

If you're very interested in Colombian history, you should see this museum. However, for a non-Colombian traveler with limited time, go see the Museo de Oro and the Botero museum first. Also make a quick pass through Museo Santa Clara. Although it's not the highest on the list, a trip to la Quinta de Bolivar did more to bring alive Colombian history than Museo Nacional. Museo Nacional becomes somewhat redundant after seeing everything else.

The National Museo is a must see adventure. Each level of the museum has something new to offer. I would recommend this to all travelers.
