Of course, not every development inavitably leads to an improvement but what happened on the field of winemaking during the last ten or twenty years in Malta definitely did. Not only the great producers Marsovin and Delicata improved the quality of their product massively, even more interesting is what happens in the small family run wineries that have emerged on Malta and Gozo.One of them is the repeatedly awarded Tal-Massar winery run by Anthony Hili and his wife Marisa. A visit and wine-tasting at the winery in Xaghra (or during summer months at the vineyard in Gharb) is a great opportunity to learn about wine, winemaking and how all that relates to the particular environment on Gozo. Anthony is a most entertaining lecturer of great experience, and the Tal-Massar wines are worth more than just a tasting.

A grate place. Very good wines, and the owner was very knowledgeable and a great host.. I Absolutely recommend this for people who are visiting Gozo.

I really couldn't recommend this enough, there were 4 of us and we all said we'd definitely visit again. Anthony's knowledge and passion was evident throughout and I left with a far greater appreciation of the sheer amount of effort involved. The wine tasting was great, he was obviously proud of the wines they produce and rightly so with a few competition winners in the mix. Personal favourite was San Mitri ...which I'll be having a few more of delivered :)

Had a fantastic time here. Definitely worth a visit. Not a wine drinker but the wine was gorgeous. He made us feel at home, not your ordinary experience. Very nice guy. Nibbles were lovely too. Looking to get bottles sent over to Ireland

We are staying in a 5 star resort in Gozo but the highlight of our trip has been a fabulously personalised wine tour of a local vineyard making the most gorgeous award-winning wines. Marisa escorted us from our hotel to the vineyard, and her husband Anthony told us of the evolution of their agroturismo industry from the early days where he stamped the skins as a 7 yr old. The Vermentino, San Giovese and Sirkusa grapes he has cultivated in a loving and attentive way have resulted in the most marvellous, complex wines we were delighted to taste in a beautiful, panoramic setting. Fascinating tour of family-run vineyard, culminating in a tasting of award-winning local wines that delight the tastebuds. Anthony gives you a wonderful insight into the history and science behind the vineyard. And Marissa's sundried tomato pesto is something special. Not to be missed.

We happened upon this lovely tour on a list of activities at the Kemplinski resort, and it was a fabulous find. From the moment the smiling, friendly Marisa picked us up at our hotel, till our merry drop off an hour and a half later it was just great. Anthony, the owner of the vinyard, gives an interesting, insightful and entertaining tour. The wines offered for tasting are of an excellent standard, and beautifully complimented by local fare, especially Marisa's wonderful sundried tomato pesto toast. Not to be missed.
