We were taken to this beautiful house on a Christmas morning walking tour from the river cruise ship Swiss Diamond. The house is not normally open on public holidays but arrangements had been made by the tour operator, Noble Caledonia for our visit. The visit started on the top floor where we were welcomed by the jovial owner and this was followed by a short video of the project in Dutch with English sub-titles. After this we wandered downstairs viewing the various rooms as we went until we reached the stunning large public room with an huge bay window that overlooks the river Rhine. Here we were served stollen and hot wine. This was a lovely way to spend Christmas morning.

Beautifully refurbished former home of Dordrecht businessman Simon van Gijn. Almost of the house is accessible and gives a good idea of what life was like in the eighteenth century. A free guidebook is available with plenty of information about the rooms and significant paintings and artefacts. The cafeteria on the ground floor, with views across the attractive garden, serves a reasonably priced lunch (2 euros for a cheese tosti) and excellent coffee.

Home Van Gijn is a period home turn of the century. It has been elected as museum of the year. Exhibitions are always in keeping with the family's history. Highly recommendable for children.

The moment you step in thehouse you are back in time. All rooms are furnished with original pieces. They look like the rich family is still living there. Some rooms have unique decorations, e.g de Saal has beautiful tapestries.

Enjoyable hour or so looking around the interior of this historic house. A good book guide was provided in English. A cup of tea / coffee was included in the entry fee. On the third floor was a short video presentation in Dutch - subtitles would have been nice but we got the idea.

This was an awesome places to spend a couple hours. It was like being transported back in time. The house is beautifully kept and has lots to look at. We were given an English brochure which helped describe the rooms as their are no signs. Very interesting. The third floor/attic has very old toys. It was super creepy dimly light with creepy carnival music playing but neat to see. If I was a child I feel I would have nightmares from this place, luckily we were the only people there (which could have added to the horror movie feel). I would definitely go back to this house again. Fun day! It was 7 euro/person or 4 if you were a student.

From the outside, this house doesn't seem unique, but step inside and you will go back in history. The rooms are fabulously decorated - this is how the rich lived back then. The red sitting room called the Chic Drawing Room is impressive. Across from this is the Hall with its woodwork and wall tapestries. Each room gets better - and there are three floors to view. I really liked the array of toys in the top floor --- some are even moving above your head as you walk through. So much to see - give yourself some time here. There is also a small café at the back of the house in the garden - luxurious!

This is the house of an old Dordrecht merchant and collector. Some of the rooms have been restored to how they would have looked when he was living there. Leather wall paper, beautiful and rare tapestry, fun objects and to top it all off an attic filled with antique toys

Wonderful museum, not too big, not to small. Relaxed atmosphere, and many different objects of interest. Paintings, furniture, toys, miniature ships, and in general, a view back in time. This museum is like a house that was froozen in time. A must-see when in Dordrecht!
