It was simply amazing to find dunes and beach at one place. One can see Russia standing on the dunes. They have an old sun clock as well near the dunes. Must visit if one comes to Nida !

Visited Nida in October 2014 - that means off season. There were very few tourists everywhere and because of the late time of the year, I could enjoy a very relaxing sunrise at 8am. Standing on the top of the great duna above Nida and seeing the sun over the horizon was the best experience during my trip to Lithuania. And no people around, that time of the year, you have the dunes all for yourself. And there is a high chance to see a moose when you get to the dunes early in the morning. The only thing you have to control, it that your cell phone is still using Lithuanian providers, not Russian. Because you get very close to the border, it can happen very easily and the charges can be huge. While leaving, I took a walk back to the village, not along the beach but through the forrest. Very relaxing and very good (and funny) markings.

I have seen sand dune in white color at Socotra island but not in light green ! Stunning view, the whole national park is amazing. Although was in December , it is not as cold as expected. I enjoyed walking and viewing the Dune. I preferred a quiet season , nobody was arround at this period . I spent half a day walking round the sand dune feeling the fine , smooth sand and sat there viewing the horizon and the border of Rusia . I am sure those who like nature will love this place.

The end of the August was a great time to visit this beautiful place - it was still very warm, but there were less people, so we could fully enjoy the peace of this place and explore the surreal nature of dunes.

Loved walking along the water and to the solar calandra on top.One path is clearly marked: via the wooden stairs or via an asphaltés road on the other side.Sad to see that people do not respect at all the signs protecting the dunes and stating clearly it is forbidden to walk outside of the wooden path... Especially after you read the information signs explaining that each person walking on the sand is making move down to the Sea 5 tonnes of sand and contribute to destroying the dune...

I haven't seen anything similar before and therefore I would recommend you to visit Nida and experience the dunes.

I recently returned from a trip to the three Baltic States - Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting all three countries, which until a year ago, I did not know much about the history or geography of this region. The tour guides were excellent, and I particularly enjoyed enjoyed the three days I spent in the beach resort town of Nida, Lithuania. I visited the sand dunes, and took a dip in the Baltic Sea. Nida is only two miles from the Russian Border. For those California residents, it reminded me of Morro Bay/Cambria/Big Sur along the California Central Coast.I booked the trip through Vertical Horizons Travel (www/verticalhorizonstravel.com), my 4th trip in 11 years with this tour company and I have been pleased with the organization, tour guides, and accommodations provided throughout each of the trips. The Baltic states was probably my favorite. Plenty of history, beautiful countries, an abundance of castles, art, forests and parks. The food was very good, and be sure to try the beer.Tim Adams

The walk from Nida to the dunes through the forest is magical, the views from above spectacular. One can spend a good couple of hours up there just taking in the sites, walking to close to the Russian border (okay, to the boundary of the Reserve), visiting the sundial and watching as the shadows move across the steps. It's a fabulous place to just take a book, kick back behind a dune and let the mind wander. Enjoy!
