We got on halfway up the moutain after lunch ,took the ride up to say we did it . The view is good just as it is everywhere near the top of the moutain . The best part is skiing down to the igloo for a respite and a special coffee

This was our favorite way to get to the slopes...as long as there was no fresh snow.No snow = no hurry = 8:12 am Gornergrat trainSnow = hurry = early to the liftsIt takes a bit longer than the lifts, but the views are spectacular and it is a very comfortable way to start your day.

Great view on the transport to the slopes. From Gornergrat you can reach all slopes on ski's. Nice restaurant at the top with terrace and view point

Yes, this is a no brainer and a must do in Zermatt. It is not over-rated or anything. It is really amazing. OK. I used it as a skier and as a skier point of view it can be frustrating skiing this side of the mountain with the Gournergrat Bahn. It is slow and some stations require you a long walk to and from the ski slope to the station (Riffelalp stop). I've read that this side may be skiied more if not for slow access of the Gornergart Bahn. It takes about 30mins from the village to the top of the Gornergrat. BUT, I mean I've grew up skiing in Whislter/Blackground and I've seen my fair amount of modern chairlifts, gondolas or cable cars , what have you but skiing with a train?! WOW. You literally, can ski beside the train track and it is just an experience skiing on an off to a train station! I mean where do you get this in the world?!Deemed the highest open-air railway of the continent, it has breathtaking view as you ascend up the mountain. Perfect view of the matterhorn on a sunny day. It is amazing. I mean if you don't take this train ride in Zermatt, is like saying you never visited the Eiffel Tower in Paris..it is just something you must do...

Very accessible. Well serviced. Frequent and simply a novel way to get up the mountain. Naturally this also gives you time to sit down and enjoy the amazing scenery.
