Don’t bother to find the way in – it’s really ugly. The baroque high altar in this Norman/ Gothic church is ghastly. The over elaborate pulpit is also pretty dreadful; but it’s fun to try to puzzle out how the preacher climbs up to his rostrum ! Some nice windows but what did they think they were doing when they installed that altar !

Another Cathedral in France but we were lucky this time an evening service was taking place and so instead of an architectural museum we were immersed in a service, the reason why it was built. Despite its size it suddenly became intimate, the voices and music filling the void. Before the service we walked about admiring the monuments and delightful stained glass. Yes its another French Cathedral but for us it was a a unique experience.

Lovely cathedral, quite easily the highlight of my visit to Angers alone. The stained glass is also medieval and stunning. Highly recommednded

The best way of approaching the cathedral is from the river looking up the steep stair from the fountain at its base! Then climb to the top! Fantastic! The inside is amazing, but what medieval cathedral isn't! Lovely stained glass windows and tapestries! It's free and worth 1/2 an hour even for the non religious!

I have never regretted visiting a cathedral. Some made my day, others added at least a little something . I don 't regret having been here, but when it would have been my first cathedral ever, I wonder if I would have bothered a second time. There are tapestries, nice, there is marble ( a bit " trop " the french would say) there was an over the top organ, stained windows and a lot of ornaments in wood . A lot of everything, so the overall impression was unsatisfactory.

When you first arrive in the city, after the famous castle, this gothic architecture beauty will catch your eyes. It's maybe the most beautiful part of the city's skyline. With its beautiful and big organ inside, this cathedral is a must.

Besides the Chateau and Apocalypse Tapestry, this is worth a visit when you are in Angers. The stained glass which was well written up was exquisite -- there are are beautiful carvings and side chapels around the cathedral all worth admiring .The organ at this cathedral is also very old and famous -- I was lucky to listen to it as the organist was rehearsing for a concert.

Although this cathedral seems a bit unassuming at first, the 12th- and 13th-century stained glass windows make this cathedral a treat. Complete explanations of each window in the nave are scattered throughout. Take binoculars to see the rich detail in the windows. At the end of May 2014, the west portal (1150-1160) was completely covered for restoration.

There are several excellent tapestries at St-Maurice and the stained glass windows are lovely also. Take a walk down the steps in front of the Cathedral and then follow any one of the paths off to the left for some beautiful sites of "old Angers".

Other than than castle and the art museum, the cathedral is probably the next place in Angers to see. Very nice Cathedral; wonderful art, beautiful stained glass windows. Try not to miss it if you visit Angers. It is very close from the castle and there is a nice short route of narrow alleys between the two that I found interesting.
