The night before visiting this chateau I realized the bus line stops operation in winter, therefore I rented a car and drove from Massy-Palaiseau.After a 30-minute journey I arrived this remote chateau with my wife, who is fascinated with fairly tales. We didn't visit at the right weather - there was a rainy morning and windy throughout the day. I would prefer visiting in warmer days, as there involves heavy outdoor walk.Guided tour - my favorite part - starts from 2:30pm. Being two non-French speakers in our slot, Nathalie the guide specially gave us some additional descriptions in English, which I appreciated a lot as she tried to make sure me and my wife understand the stories and history behind each room. The fairly tale figures are scattered around the chateau and the garden. Each scene is placed in a glass-protected room, where for some you can press a button to start the story sequence. Brilliant idea.Perhaps because not visit at the tourist season, the only place I could get some food and drink was the vending machine, which saved me from starving and freezing.Great selection at the gift shop. This chateau is great for family outing. A must-visit for those who enjoys fairly tales.

The chateau is very popular with school groups, especially those under 10 years old so timing is everything. Fortunately we had a guide to ourselves who was happy to practice her English - yes this is a guided tour only chateau. Photos are permitted but must be without flash. As the lighting can be a bit dark in some of the rooms make sure that your camera has the capability of handling such conditions without too much shake. In our case the tour took rather longer than we anticipated, I guess about an hour and a half or so, probably because there were only two of us. Still, picked up some interesting stories concerning numerous visitors to the chateau, including the future King Edward V11 (where the development the Entente Cordiale was said to have secretly begun) + Marie Antoinette and Marcel Proust each figure being displayed in the form of high quality waxwork figures. In addition to the chateau, the gardens are also well worth exploring - providing the weather is kind enough. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable visit and one to be recommended if in the area.

The Château de Breteuil! Is a terrific place for the whole family. The visit to the castle is informative and interesting, especially if it is the current owner doing the visit (in English)! A maze will keep everyone entertained. There are several interesting fairy tale displays. A terrific walk to discover some magnificent trees. Also a children's park and picnic area. Toilets are clean (brand new). Gardens are pleasant to walk around with lots to see. We spent the whole day there and enjoyed every minute. Reasonable entrance fee.

A beautiful and impeccably kept family owned chateau. A guided visit is very well explained by a charming young woman and/ or the owner himself, depending on the amount of people present. The chateau has a main theme: Perrault's childrens stories. There are scenes from several done in life size wax figures and others in beautiful miniatures. During the afternoon there is a story telling session for children and also often special activities. The day we visited, there was a piano concert for the children with the music of Babar. There are so many interesting details that it is impossible to include all in a simple review. This enchanting place is well worth a visit, especially for children, as besides the chateau itself there are lovely gardens, and a huge park where they can play, and even picnics are permitted. I intend to return again next summer with my grandchildren.

Visited Chateau de Breteuil, had a guided tour of the Chateau, wandered through the gardens, the maze, the many outbuildings filled with characters from Perault's fairy tales and saw Puss in Boots everywhere. The guide interacted with the children throughout the tour of the house, she really seemed to love her job. The chateau is privately owned, very well maintained, near the entrance/exit there is a panel with a note from the owners thanking you for your visit and your contribution towards the upkeep and restoration. Snacks are available in the gift shop and parking is free. There's a great play/park area with swings, seesaws for the kids, it was excellent value for money, you can easily spend the whole afternoon here.

With its connection to Claude Perault (author of Puss in Boots, Tom Thumb , Sleeping Beauty etc) this chateau is an ideal way for adults to have a really interesting cultural day out and for the children to really enjoy all the fairy story stuff! The family had close connections to royalty and all the rooms are full of waxworks of the period so a good place to brush up on French history but each room has mechanical Puss in Boots(s) to keep the kids amused The tour is guided and I am not sure if there are English ones but there is lots and lots to look at if your French is not good.Outside is a lovely formal garden, a moat with goats, an excellent play park and many fairy story tableaux. There is a maze too. Only saw a small soft drinks and ice cream type cafe. Souvenir shop
