The Chevreuse Valley area is amazingly rich both in terms of natural beauty as well as historical monuments, yet somehow isn't covered in most travel guides. There are numerous chateaux in the area open to the public (e.g. Chateau de Breteuil, Chateau de Dampierre, Rambouillet ...). These are much more on a human scale than Versailles where the masses flock to, and fun for the whole family (e.g. when was the last time you were able get lost in a hedge labyrinth like the one at the Chateau de Breteuil?). The Abbey de Vaux Cernay in the area is also beautiful with wonderful meals. The castle on the hill above Chevreuse (Chateau de la Madeline) is also fun for the whole family and the view of the village below and the surrounding wooded hills is beautiful. For those who likes sports, the road and mountain biking in the area is excellent as well as hiking. There are plenty of quiet roads and trails in the area and its easy to avoid being on busy roads mentioned by another reviewer (get an IGN map of the area which shows all the roads and trails - available at book/magazine shops and tourism offices in the area). There are also horse stables in the area that offer rides.

It was nice to see such a lovely rural scene so close to Paris. We stayed in a chambes d'hote nearby and ate at Le Clos de Chevreuse - an excellent restaurant

This is a region of amazing natural beauty, historical monuments and rich gastronomy. Like the rest of the region around Paris. But you should avoid this region if as a driver you wish to respect the recommended maximum speed. Local drivers seem to have inherited Parisian arrogance and display excessive arrogance towards foreign car drivers. As they know where exactly speed cameras can be expected, they force others into making mistakes by driving far too fast. Police by the way is blatantly absent everywhere.

Chateau avec son pont levis magnifique et parfaitement entretenu .Accès difficile car pour un village touristique aucune indication -on le voit mais comment y aller!!!! Idem pour se restaurer -Beau village mais à vous de glaner les renseignements utiles- Dommage!!!

Большой лесопарк, удобные тропинки для прогулок (в хорошую погоду), холмистая местность. На одном из холмов расположен небольшой замок (внутри ничего интересного). Можно добраться из Парижа на пригородном поезде.

Le parc naturel régional de la Haute Vallée de Chevreuse est vraiment une région non loin de la capitale à découvrir en toutes saisons. De nombreux coins superbes à découvrir. Magnifiques forêts, châteaux... Un endroit qui nous a beaucoup plu "l'abbaye de Vaux de Cernay", un endroit extraordinaire à voir absolument, le parc est vraiment très agréable pour s'y promener !
