The port area and the ramparts are wonderful, with a number of very good, and reasonably priced restaurants. The bars seem a little ordinary other than one in Place St Sauveur which had a log fire and welcoming staff.

Beautifully preserved old buildings in a small town. The extremely old (11th century) blended into 15th and 16th. Marvellous church. Cheap but good eating places. We were there mid winter, so no tourist overload, and all is authentic.

We spent two days in the old town during the Medieval Festival. The best way to visit the Festival is to make an historical costume - then it will be free! It was very nice to walk in the old town among the variegated medieval crowd, among knights, beautiful ladies, traders, monks, nuns, beggars etc. The bugurt and the equestrian tournament were the most interesting things during the Festival.

Stayed here for two weeks this summer right in the centre of the old town. Such a lovely town with plenty of places to eat and drink. Sitting outside of a restaurant or café watching the world go by was such a great way to spend some time.Down by the port was also beautiful with great cafe's and restaurants and the boat trips were fab.

Great place to walk and soak up the atmosphere - stay if you can! Dinan caters for the stroller with a pedestrian friendly precinct in the old city

The northern French town of Dinan is a wonderful medieval townscape of cobbled streets and half-timbered buildings surrounded by a stone wall. Wander down a long cobbled street to the port at the bottom, where the port itself and many old timber houses date back to the 13th century. Stop at a port side creperie for some crepes for lunch, or try some local seafood for dinner at one of the restaurants.Dinan's historic centre is packed full of character and heritage, and well worth a visit. Somewhat incongruously there was also an English-style funfair on one border with the modern town!

Dinan, one of the best preserved medievil towns in Brittany, is located along the River Rance. It's famous for its ramparts, towers and ancient churches. Walk along its narrow cobblestone streets and you'll find many overhanging half-timbered houses just like you'd expect to find in Brittany. Look for the clocktower with its impressive quadrangular clock and the Romanesque church located in the town center. Walk behind the church to the edge of the rampart for a nice view of the river below.

Beautifully preserved town, easy to walk around with some really good restaurants tucked away. The port is a short walk down a cobbled hill and a great place for sundowners or stroll around the battlements dropping in on a great park under the castle and catch the sun; easily enough for a long weekend or even a week if you visit some of the nearby places.
