Spectacular views from this quirky amazing place situated on a sheer limestone cliff. It is easy to drive past but worth the stop.

A wonderful place, perched on a craggy outcrop and pretty well preserved . Not a ruin. You really get a feeling for the past history of this fascinating area. There are an awful lot if steps, mind, so be prepared for a bit of a climb. There are guided visits in French and also hand held audio guides in a selection of languages. We had some difficulty with ours, not always picking up the right description in the right place and sometimes not picking it up at all. But apart from that, a fascinating visit.

It was one of the most interesting excursions in the castles I've ever met, with a lot of amazing stories told by the guide, a young girl. And it was very long. At the end all the visitors applauded very sincerely.Attention - really a lot of steps up and down during the tour!

We approached the Chateau along a winding, very scenic route with incredible views of the hills around us. As earlier reviewers noted, you have to take the guided tour of the chateau, it becomes clear why this is so as you go along. You tour the chateau from top to bottom and could get lost on your own! Unless you speak French well, we recommend you borrow an audioguide. The guide was fun and interesting but spoke quite rapidly and unless you are bilingual, he's hard to follow. Both the guide and the audioguide have interesting stories to tell about the chateau and some of it's more famous prisoners. The chateau is interesting in itself but also provides wonderful views of the surrounding area, including Switzerland. A very worthwhile trip and one that could be combined with a visit to the Source de la Loue which is about 20 mins from the Chateau.

A wonderful day trip....the chateau is perched high on the cliff top overlooking Switzerland and France. After a nice drive through the country side we arrived with our kids... First stop was to but a shield and sword to play knights in the castle.. The chateau has to be seen by tour which cost our family of 5 about 15 euros....you cannot just wonder around. We were given headphones to play the English version as the guide spoke French. The tour takes about 90 minutes but our 3 kids (12, 9 and 3) loved it all. The mountain views are just as good as the chateau. This was an excellent day followed by ice cream and coffee in the cafe near the entrance.
