St. George's Church is the third cathedral in Tbilisi. Built in the 1800's, it has many icons and architectural features of the Russian Empire period of Georgian history. We celebrated the Saturday evening Vigil, vespers and Matins. Visit the well supplied store right next to the church.

The name "kashveti" is derived from Georgian words kva for a "stone" and shva "to give birth." Legend has it the prominent 6th century monk David of Gareja of the Thirteen Assyrian Fathers was accused by a woman of making her a pregnant in Tbilisi. David prophesied his denial would be proved when she gave birth to a stone. She did, and the place received the name of "kashveti."

We dropped in and encountered priests and a small group of women worshipping. It did not seem to be a formal service but was impressive nonetheless. The Orthodox priests are colourful in their robes and we also noted several young men in robes, presumably some form of alter boys?The interior, however, is not as impressive as some of the other churches in the city.

Расположено на проспекте руставели, на противоположной стороне от бывшего здания Парламента. Церковь очень симпатичная и уютная, внутри красивая роспись. Главная реликвия храма чудотворная икона Георгия Победоносца. Но, похожих церквей в Тбилиси много, а запомнилась она благодаря очень красивому саду, что рядом с ней. Очень живописное место для отдыха, можно отдохнуть на лавочке, в окружении симпатичных скульптур и деревьев

Как уже отмечалось, церковь расположена на проспекте Руставели, прогуливаясь по нем, на мой взгляд обязательно стоит зайти, посмотреть. Церквей в Тбилиси много, эта особо ничем на фоне других не выделяется, но уделить 10-15 минут ей стоит. Нам очень понравился сад, расположенный за ней, в котором имелись забавные скульптуры. Думаю каждый турист, отдыхающий в Тбилиси мимо не пройдет.

Мне больше всего понравилась внутренняя роспись и видно что старая церковь это сразу чувствуется. Не знаю мне очень там понравилась энергетика и атмосфера.

Церквей и храмов в Грузии огромное количество и если вы простой турист, то нужно определяться, что смотреть, а что пропустить. В эту церковь приятно зайти и вместе с тем погулять по саду с милыми скульптурами. Расположена она прямо на пр. Руставели, где и музеи, и театры, и архитектура, так что обязательно она вам попадется.

Скорее всего именно в эту церковь чаще всего ходят законотворцы. Ибо расположена она, практически, напротив здания парламента Грузии. Одна из реликвий храма чудотворная икона Георгия Победоносца. Приятно постоять, подумать, помолиться
