Loved seeing the stone carvings from the cathedral up close. The white madonna is gorgeous and the Tura paintings are stunning.

I went in expecting chalices etc but was pleasantly surpised. They had beautiful 13th century carvings from the wallsof the cathedral , showing the seasons, Huge illuminated Psalm books from 12th century, and a stunning Madonna and child by Jacobo della Quercia, which looked as perfect as anything could be. This small museum was the best of a number of places worth visitingt in Ferrara

The museum is housed since 2000 in the former convent of San Romano, very close to the Cathedral, separated from it only by Piazza Trento e Trieste. Its fame is mainly linked to three masterpieces: the painting of "St. George and the Dragon", which gives an adequate idea of the original style of the Ferrarese painter Cosmé Tura; the "Madonna of the Pomegranate" sculpted by Jacopo della Quercia; the wonderful sculptures of "months" that adorned a door of the Cathedral, which no longer exists (the naturalism of these sculptures of the twelfth century is amazing). It is not to be overlooked a series of tapestries from the sixteenth century and a rich collection of illuminated choir. Visit recommended even to those who are not particularly fond of art.

This museum is a good place to go when you have an odd hour in the historical centre and has several good early Renaissance works. One that stands out for me is the Maddonna Della Melagrana by Jacopo Della Quercia.

This is a small Museo located across the the church where you fi d medieval and renaissance belongings of the church. The room of tapestries took my breath away......again as I have found in this wonderful town you can get right up close and examine closely the detail of each stitch.....I rate it as better than the ones in the vatican museum.

Statues, manuscripts (large enough to examine), paintings, tapestries, metalwork in a comfortable setting. Little known work that should be well known. In a former church and cloister.

Beautiful, little-known objects ranging from gigantic tapestries to exquisite small sculptures, large illuminated manuscripts, big statues, impressive paintings..... and it's not so big that it will tire you out.

Across the street from the Duomo is a small museum with some first class tapestries and medieval art, a room with gold-leafed books of music scored by the monks, and the "white" Madonna and Child.
