By no means a competent sailor- not knowing my starboard from port- i used the services of cooperative barcaioli ponzesi,which is reasonably priced and offers knowledgeable local sea captain at the helm. The first morning we cruised across a rolling sea to Palmarola,a small island west of Ponza,inhabited only in summer,but with an incredible landscape that's truly unique,a kind of lunar terrain tortured into phantasmagorical shapes by wind and rain. Some rock-falls along the coast resemble Roman ruins that have been half-swallowed by the sea,leaving visible what seem like crenelated walls of a castle or the lonely arches of a collapsed temple. one imposing cliff-face is called the Cathedral,because its spires and pinnacles resemble a gothic church. It certainly left my boatload of pilgrims close to a state of religious awe. My next maritime adventure took me on a slow and thorough circumnavigation of Ponza aboard a boat whose skipper managed to guide us safely through the shoals,past prickly outcropping of rock,in and out of grottoes & caves and,like the camel and the needle's eye,through a natural arch called Spaccapurpo. the arch is thus called, because when fishermen used it as a landmark,and before they lowered their nets there,they cried out "spacca u purpo".... that is, "cut up the octopus for bait". I liked the look of the nude sunbathers lounging on the spiny rocks like swamis on beds of nails. the captain showed impressive dexterity at inserting and extracting us from La Pesciera Augustea ,an ancient basin that Romans carved into the Promonotorio della Madonna. When he suggested that the basin is used as a combination of swimming pool for people and aquarium for moray eels. Sounded like a bad mix to me!! Some evenings my dinners resembled the chart of evolutionary chain from the sea... from simple flaccid organisms to molluscs and bivalves and scuttling crustaceans onto finned creatures from squid to clams to shrimps,lobster and tuna. Sometimes, my favourite,believe it or not,is a hearty local dish of lentil stew.

Great place for a short break near Rome. By car join the porto of Anzio,then after 45min on the hydrofoil join Ponza (or by boat 1,5 hour from Fiumicino); rent a fast zodiac at Diva Luna, join Palmarola in 30min!! try to get there early in the morning when nobody is there!.there are no beaches but you can have wonderful swimms.

Se leggete questa recensione e amate il mare, non potete perdervi Palmarola, una delle isole più pittoresche del panorama italiano. I colori dell'acqua, gli scorci, le grotticine che si affaciano sulla costa la fanno apparire molto simile alle migliori coste sarde, ma sianmo di fronte il Lazio e per arrivarci da San Felice in gommone ci vorranno un paio d'ore. Sono stat a Ponza ad Agosto e quindi ho visitato Palmarola un paio di volte circumnavigandola per intero (non vi ci si può alloggiare). Merita davvero.

Forget Capri...this is 100X better! This little gem is paradise, people are lovely, is quiet and romantic and you can not take enough pictures.

un posto assolutamente da non perdere, mare cristallino con colori incredibili che sfumano dal verde al turchese, una meraviglia!

Oasi marina d eccellenza mare verde cristallo.fondali unici.la vera perla del mediterraneo.costa frastagliata con rifugi nella montagna trasformati in abitazioni uniche. Spettacolare per immersioni sub.

il litorale romano a parte qualche eccezione non è di certo considerato uno dei migliori mari di italia. E quando pensi di aver visto mari favolosi rimarrete sicuramente senza parole nel trovarvi a pochissimi passi dalla costa in uno scenario di rara bellezza acque cristalline che vanno oltre l'immaginazione di chiunque. cerchiamo di rispettare la natura e quindi la bellezza di questa isola.

le parole mal saprebbero descrivere questa piccola perla delle isole pontine. andate e vedrete.credo che a giugno dia il meglio di se.verso le 12 un bagno al faraglione di mezzogiorno... un colore straordinario e fai pace col mondo.

Un vero paradiso. Un'isola incontaminata e disabitata. Deve il suo nome alle piante di palma nana che crescono spontaneamente sull'isola. Essendo disabitata non ci sono traghetti di linea ma è possibile raggiungerla dall'isola di ponza con barche private per gite turistiche e relativa sosta. Acqua pulitissima.
