It's a bit out of the way, but absolutely worth every minute of the trip to get there. I felt like I was in a fairy tale walking through the gardens with the mist coming down off the mountain. It is truly one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and I'm hoping to be able to get back there again someday. If you're in the Rome area, well worth setting aside 1 day from the local attractions and making your way out here. You won't regret it! I would recommend asking the hotel staff to help you with travel arrangements, it's not a direct shot to get there but, again, so well worth the trip. Bring a light jacket just in case and absolutely bring comfortable shoes. It tends to be a little wet and muddy in some places and you'll be happy you were prepared. Nothing in the immediate area to speak of as far as restaurants etc., but we ate at a little restaurant across from the train station (a few miles from Ninfa itself) and had phenomenal pasta with fresh mushrooms. I'd recommend bringing a lunch or a snack. A camera is a must have for this trip.

I've been to the garden twice. Since the garden can only be visited with a guided tour, try to check out the dates of the visit to make sure they are open. http://www.fondazionecaetani.org/visita_ninfa.php? Visits are also possible on some public holidays (like Ferragosto - mid of August). But there might be no transportation from the train Station (Latina). This happened when we visited last year. But the organizers managed to find some drivers who agreed to take people to Ninfa and back (some waiting involved of course). But it was worth it. A tour in English was great and the group had definitely less people than all other Italian groups. The second visit was with an Italian guide but it gave more time to take pictures and actually enjoy the garden (the first time we tried to listen more). If you are travelling by car check out Sermoneta which is not far. It has some nice views of Latina and some quite picturesque streets.

Outside the park, the autumn was all around, with the trees loosing naturally its leaves with the season. Inside, it looked as if it was still springtime! In this magical place, you find the tallest olive trees I've ever seen, pines beside banana trees (?!!!) and many ruins. The place was in ancient days a busy city, one of the gates do Rome. It has also seen a lot of violence during many wars. Despite of that (or because of that), the nature offers us a show! There is a big parking lot, and park guides.

We went there because I read some recommendations from trip advisor and i was curious to see myself if its worth seeing and really so beautiful as people describe. I have never heard of this place before. We went without making any reservation prior to the visit and it was a mistake. First important think to know for you is that this beautiful garden is open only 50 days a year, usually first saturday and sunday of the month + some particular dates during the year and it may be open for organized groups after reservation. We didn't know that and entered just because luckily for us there was an organized group visiting this day and they were kind enough to let us participateWe came in august so we were not expecting anything outstanding as this is the hottest month and flowers are not blooming anymore. However the real beauty and the core of this garden is the river itself. It's a pure beauty and will leave you breathless. The water is really crystal clear and you can see green plants growing in the river so it really recalls the famous "avatar" movie sceneryBut it's better as it's for real :)It's also a fact that the garden doesn't have any very rare plants species but it is their connivence that makes it uniqueThere are also surprises like roses climbing really high trees and huge bamboos but's its better you come yourself to see :) I can imagine how outstanding it must be during spring time but it's worth seeing anytime for the beauty of the river itself!

We visited by arrangement and - although pricey - we had the whole gardens to ourselves and we able to wander around freely except for the residential areas. Dinner at the nearby Il Piccolo Ducato (recommended by the Director of Giardino di Ninfa) was outstanding - excellent food and the most helpful staff in the world (check opening times).

We just spent the day hiring a car & driving from Rome to visit these gardens & they lived up to expectations. If you are into gardens, this must be on your list. It is a good 1 hr drive & we arrived at 10 .30 & spent 1 1/2 hrs in lines to enter. The tour takes about 1 1/2 hours. Still worth it. Good lunch spot at Norma - Ristorante Pizzeria la Fontana, up the hill behind Ninfa at 2000 m great views towards the sea.

Since the garden is tightly controlled, my guide in Rome was only able to arrange a visit as part of a thirty person tour given in Italian. She came along to translate for us.My wife and I are both gardeners, in the much colder northeast of the US. She asked me how we could arrange some ruins. And some lovely swiftly moving water courses. It was a lovely early autumn day, no insects bothered us. The paths were very level, making walking very pleasant. This is a must for garden people. The Italian speaking tour leader was very welcoming; she offered to answer any question we had in very good English. She said she was from Havana. We hired a car to take us here with a side trip to Sermonetta and to the Garibaldi monument for a panoramic view of Rome. We had to leave at 7:15 to be sure to join the group. We were back In our hotel a little after 4. Tickets cost 10euro, even though the other tourers paid 8. My guide said she would not dispute for just 6. I agreed. The car and chauffeur, from NCC, was excellent though not free: 360euro. My guide indicated that a tip was in order but was up to me. I gave him 40, which my guide said was not so little as to be insulting.

Was really looking forward to visiting these gardens and having read they are classed as one of the most romantic gardens in the world I was so happy I was in Rome on one of the few days per year when they are open . My rating is based on my visit not on the beauty of the gardens , it is hard to visit somewhere classed as romantic in such a regimented group with no time to spend with your partner or friends taking in the beauty or having time to reflect . We had to join a Italian speaking tour and although the guide could speak English she chose only to translate tiny amounts of what she said to 2 members of the group who were at the front of the group . She constantly shouted to hurry us up and the whole visit was over very quickly .

The garden is definitively worth a visit if you enjoy the nature. It is open only a couple of times a month so check their website before going. End of May/beginning of June is the best period to visit as all roses blossom at that time. Good for the romantic trip;)

For a few years now after watching a gardening special on BBC, I've wanted to see this garden. After just the day before seeing the Rome botanical gardens and being ever so disappointed, this was an unbelievable spectacle. The water was more clear than anything i had ever seen, the plants scattered yet so well grown surrounding the ruins.. Beautiful. This is everything i expected it to be, and more. If going to Rome, this is a MUST SEE
