We arrived at the Abbey too late to visit this cemetery...but it looked fantastic from the Abbey balcony. Surrounded by trees, looking up at the Mount they lost their lives for, resting in peace. Thank you for your sacrifices.

This cemetery helped define a nation. What is difficult to comprehend is that the Polish soldiers fought for freedom in Europe, yet at the end of WWII, their country was occupied by the Russians. Freedom only found Poland in 1981.This cemetery is a place to contemplate the cost of freedom.

A piece of history for humanity, a sad place but very significant for all of us.The cemetery is very large and it is difficult to see it all but it is a must for anyone going to visit the abbey.

This location is a must see for any Polish person and for that matter anyone that enjoys the freedoms we have today. This particular cemetery is for the Polish Soldiers alone and is the only one atop the hill just below the Abbey itself. The Poles were the only ones who where able (and crazy enough) to take the hill after all the other allied forces were pushed back. Unfortunately many if not most, paid the ultimate price. My father (who just passed away this past January) fought alongside these brave men and was one of the lucky ones who made it out on a stretcher as opposed to being eternally laid atop the hill. If this hill had not been taken when it was, the entire war would have transpired quite differently.

The cemetery brilliantly commemorates the sacrifice made by the II (Polish) Corps in its first major battle - a battle that secured the key high ground behind the monastery. It is right that the Polish cemetery should be located exactly where it is.

I visited this cemetery as part of a personal pilgrimage in remembrance of my father who fought snd was wounded here. He died in 2010 aged 90 but always spoke about his time in the war. The cemetery is very well kept and includes the tomb of General Anders. The views up to the abbey are beautiful. I am sad however that the abbey itself has so little information about the actual battle. It is almost like they place more importance on the religious treasures than the lives of the soldiers (of all nations) who lost their lives on this mountain. Very moving and serene place......

Makes you stop and think. Deeply poigniant. Read up on the battle before you come to understand the place better as little infromation available on site. Wonderful view of the monestery from the cementary.

This very well kept cemetery is less than a kilometer from the Abbey at Montecassino. It is a moving tribute to the 1000 soldiers that lost their lives during the WWII battle that took place nearby in 1944.GPS coordinates: 41.493841°N 13.805866°EThere are about 30 stairs down from the parking lot to the foot of the tombstones. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Definitely worth a visit if you are familiar with the history and in the area checking out the Abbey.
