The Museo Guerra Museum provides an amazing amount of World War I artifacts found in the Dolomites, where the Italians and Austrians fought in brutal conditions. Imagine trenches filled with ice and snow and trying to stay warm. Our guide was dressed in an ancestors uniform and described how the soldiers were often fighting against neighbors and relatives, since this part of Italy had been part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. The displays include a guitar played by a soldier, food containers, surgical instruments and many photos. Well worth a visit before or after a gondola ride up to the top of Mount Lagazuoi.

This is probably the best collection of WW1 artefacts etc in the Dolomites. Well worth an hour or so.

This is a must do. Visiting the Tre Sassi fort really takes you back in the past - walking through the trenches, seeing the huge number of artifacts in the museum chambers or reading the stories.Even the museum has only 3 chambers that you can visit, plan to spend some time there and check out all the WW1 artifacts. And in the souvenir shop you can buy original WW1 artifacts.I would also recommend to see the other places part of the open-air museum. You'll have it all: nature with great landscapes and history with great stories.

This is a review of the Great War Museum based in the ruins of an old fort. There is a charge for entry, however I felt this was fair given the need for the upkeep of the museum. The museum is located at a dramatic location on a mountain pass on the road to Cortina D'Ampezzo. The views surrounding the museum are stunning. I must admit that prior to visiting the area I wasn't aware of this part of the history of the First World War. This is a subject that interests me so I found this an interesting museum. There were artefacts that had been collected from the period and information to read about what had happened at the time.It was very cold in the fort, even in June there was snow in the ground outside. An worthwhile trip for those interested in the subject and finding out about the history of the area.

Ever dream of hiking in a superb panorama, while still learning history and walking in the path of WW1 soldiers? That's the place to go. Cinque Torri and Lagazuoi area!

Small and quite boring, noone to talk about the war. Very cold at winter time. Though it's nice that it exists. It provokes to skim through the history pages.

This museum is really three separate sites : Great War Museum in Tre Sassi Fort : 5 Torri and Lagazuoi. The Great War Museum is in Tre Sassi Fort and there is an entrance charge. The museum itself is an unexceptional collection of exhibits and displays but they are housed in an old Austro-Hungarian Fort which wasbuilt in the nineteenth century and was in the front line of the fighting in WWI : this is worth visting. The Fort is on the road through the Valparola Pass and offers spectacular views as well as opportunities for walking. The 5 Torri museum is an open air museum where it is possible to walk along the mountain paths and see the Italian defence line and artilery headquarters with recontructed shelters and entrenchments. It can be reached on foot but we took the chair lift to the top of the mountain and then walked around the summit. (The chair lift goes from a really pleasant shop/restaurant where there's lots of parking up to a height of 2225m)Both are very different and offer an insight into the conditions experienced by those on the front line in the war. For the Tre Sassi Fort, 1-2 hours is enough time for a visit: for the 5 Torre, you need at least half a day .
