This museum is (mostly) dedicated to the fauna and geology of the area around Bergamo, as it should since it is a relatively small outfit. It is therefore surprising to find a non-fossilized skeleton of a whale hanging from the ceiling, as the sea has not covered this land for several million years. Turns out the animal beached itself and died a few years ago, and the skeleton was 'awarded' in safekeeping. At the very least, it suggests that this is indeed a scientific museum, and not a playground. Nevertheless, visitors are encouraged to touch many of the specimen on display, which goes a long way toward keeping the kids busy and interested (and maybe learn something along the way), which is about all that one can ask of any museum anywhere. The halls discussing the geology of the local mountains and the fossils found therein are interesting for adults, less for the kids. It does not help that tags in english are few and far between, and those in italian tend to be rather verbose. The admission price (free when we visited) makes it a great bargain.I would recommend to friends traveling with children; but not to a group of adults.

If you've been to 1 Natural Science museum you've been to them all. This one is full of animals from Italy and other counties as well... great for kids, OK for adults.

Especially if the weather is not great outside. It is free entry and worth every penny. Only downside (as an English family) is that there is little in English once inside but plenty to see and kept out 5 year old happy running around looking at exhibits. Wasn't busy in May and never felt under pressure to be quiet or to constrained. Enjoyed an hour or so wandering around.

This museum wasn't any different to Science museums the world over, but if you're in the area, or you want to take the kids then it's great. The giant Mammoth is the best and I liked the detail they had around every area. Their displays are very informative.

We came here as an activity to do on a very wet day. Entry is free and they had quite a lot of exhibits despite being quite a small-scale museum. There is a huge mammoth just after you enter and it really gives you a good impression of how huge these creatures were. I very much enjoyed looking around and I think there was a coffee machine with a couple of tables so you could have a drink. We spent a couple of hours here and still have some more to look at on another visit. It is true that the signs are in Italian, but with my basic Italian I managed to get by and even without extra information, you can still enjoy looking!

The museum can be reached from the lower city (citta bassa) with the bus nr 1 "aeroporto-citta alta". Actually it is at the end of the route of bus nr 1 so one can't get lost or get off at the wrong stop. A huge (rather old) mamoth welcomes the visitors. The museum has a big collection of embalmed birds, animals and reptiles. It is very interesting for the kids. They can see a variety of samples in the available microscopes and can also push the buttons in a big board in order to listen to various birds singing. There is also a place for the kids to draw & a small room where one can rest or drink a coffee. Then there's a big exhibition of african and american-indian art.The entrance is free. There's no gift shop but one can buy the museums postcards for a very reasonable price. The museum is somewhat neglected but one can see that it is a museum with a long history. We spend two rainy hours in it and my kids loved it.

The Natural Science Museum was well done -- had some animals I'd never heard of before -- wonderful for kids, but very nice for two older people like us. The archeology part had very interesting artifacts from Africa, and also from native North America.

Great museum especially the part about the African art. The exposed collection is really fine and worth the visit. The "natural sciences" section of the museum is ice for kids.

Very interesting Museum and free entry too! Loved all the bird song examples which really was for the benefit of the children visiting the museum!

My love of nature brought us here. The woolly mammoth upon entry is a real draw. However, this is obviously an educational centre for local school children. Some of the exhibits are not such good quality. I asked for a handset in English but they don't do them. All the written explanations are in Italian so it wasn't very informative for non Italian speakers. A nice cool down though from the heat outdoors.
