With the use of your imagination and the information panel you can really see how it was before. Just a small detour on your way from the Felsenkirche to the castle above.

Took the well worth-it long climb to the top and quite enjoyed the story of the two brothers fighting over one maiden. Not sure if true but quite imaginable. Stairs/steps can be steep and uneven at times so walk carefully. The view from top is magnificent looking down on Idar-Oberstein. Very picturesque!

Longer walk, but still beautiful views and surroundings. Always worth it to visit the architecture in Germany!

The walk to the old castle is very nice especially on a warm day.Unfortunately the way is not to easy to walk for little children.Don't forget to enjoy the view.

There is a beautiful park nearby which I will upload a photo of. This is worth seeing specifically because of the great views of Idar Oberstein which is also why I chose to rate it a 5.

From castle Oberstein it is still quite a walk and an additional 136 steps (stairs) to the ruin. The castle was built in the12th century by Lords von Stein (Oberstein). Wirich von Stein had thrown his brother Emich through the window of the Castle out of jealousy, as he was love with Berta of Burg Lichtenstein, and so was Wirich himself. As a panance he had the Felsenkirche built. In 1600 the castle was abandoned and dilipitated.

Ein zwar etwas steiler Weg von Oberstein hoch zur Felsenkirche, Burg Bosselstein und Schloss Oberstein wird mit einem reizvollen Ausblick belohnt. Im Schnee hat es einen besonderen Reiz, oben trifft man dort niemanden und kann dann sehr schön über das Tal von Oberstein blicken.

Zur Burg Bosselstein kommt mal, wenn man am alten Schloss parkt und einen Pfad hinunter geht, wenn man von der Genossenschaftsstrasse, welche etwa mitten im Hang liegt, nach oben wandert, oder recht beschwerlich, wenn man von der Fussgängerzone Oberstein's hoch wandert. Auf letzterer Strecke kommt man aber auch an der Felsenkirche vorbei, welche unter der Burg Bosselstein im Fels liegt. Der schönste Weg ist definitiv vom neuen Schloss aus und zeigt einem eine recht schöne und verwunschene Ecke. Die Burg B ist nur noch eine Ruine. Gehört aber dazu, wenn man I-O einen Besuch abstattet.
