I was there during my honeymoon (2008- but trip advisor doesn't let me go that far back). While visiting the museum we ran into a man who was born in Rhodes, survived the occupation and came back to take care of the museum. He lives 1/2 of the year in Italy and 1/2 in Rhodes. He told us first hand his story and insisted on taking us on a full tour of the museum. Amazing experience!

A little tricky to find but worth the effort (we asked for directions at the tourist office). It's a lovely quiet oasis in this bustling town so an ideal location for wandering through this very worthwhile museum and ponder the fate and eventual demise of the Jewish community in Rhodes. No entry fee but there is a box for donations on the way back out through the synagogue.

The synagogue & museum are only open during the tourist season (approx mid April through mid November) from 10 am-3 pm. They are not hard to find as they are a short walk from the cruise ships and a stone's throw from the Holocaust Memorial in Jewish Martyr's Square. You can tour the museum and synagogue on your own as there is ample information posted. (The synagogue exists purely on donations, so it's important to leave one.) In addition, for 10 euros you can take a fascinating, nearly 3 hour tour of the former Jewish Quarter with Isaac Habib whose parents were born there. He concludes with something personal and extremely moving which I will not disclose here (nor would I do it justice if I did.) As I said above, not to be missed!

We were made very welcome to a beautiful but sad place of worship which has an accompanying exhibition. The historical event of the second world war when 95% of the Rhodes Jewish community were brutally taken to the German death camps and murdered is an incredibly moving story. Unfortunately the Jewish community of Rhodes has never fully recovered from this decimation and it is only by the hard work of a few dedicated individuals that the memories are kept alive.A must see attraction.

Very nice synagogue but not easy to find it is worth a look at and ask the locals for the directions as it is up a side street.
