We stayed in Mayrhofen recently and could not ski every day so we got a walking map from the tourist office (3 euro's I think). The map covered the Ziller Valley and was a little difficult to follow, but was none the less enjoyable. One of the best walks was where we took a bus down to Zell-am- Ziller (catch the bus at the train station, no kidding). You are dropped at the train station in Zell-am-Ziller and can either walk into the town to look at the church and have a coffee or you can find the start of the walk which for parts has the river on your right and the narrow gauge railway on your left. At places there is only a few meters between the river and the railway, Wonderful. The walk/stroll takes about 3-4 hours and is most enjoyable crossing the river, passing art work and a cross country ski course. You finish up at the railway station in Mayrhofen, but you can extend the walk to bring you out at the Penken cable car and the main street. you can also "mix and match" some of the walks to make up your own route.Go give it a go!!!

There are lots of walking areas both down the valley or up in the woods. Some very quaint shops around.

We walked in Winter and Tracks are mostly sealed but you can venture into the rough, so good walking shoes or boots are needed. The views are stunning and there are picnic areas dotted about and benches at various points to sit and take in the amazing scenery. We also walked along the River which was stunning. Great fresh and clean air with lots to catch the eye.

Some of the most beautiful scenery and walks. Water falls, stream, lakes. Cows wearing bells that continuously tinkle in the breeze! Lovely to hear whilst walking.Wear good boots and layers!

Everything from rough mountain trails to well formed and sealed tracks that cover almost, if not all, of the valley. The entire area is very well utilised by locals and visitors alike.

There were so many walks for all abilities, and all well signed. From top of Ahorn, accessed by cable car, there are numerous walks, some with gentle gradient and others very steep indeed, but all with magnificent views and mountain huts selling delicious cake. There are also many walks from the top of the Penkenbahn, also with wonderful views. They are all well signposted, and give an indication of the length of time it would take to complete and how difficult they are.

The walks were challenging but really enjoyable! And they suited their classification (blue, red, black) although I am a fit 23 year old.

Some very clearly marked footpaths for those of you who like to Hike - magnificent scenery. Plenty of other excursions are available on the area.

I love the place, amazing mountains, variety of options, greenery, peace. i found there everything I look for when I go on holiday. With only one exception: information. The Information office did not provide updated and professional information about hiking. We had to go and see. No warning regarding difficult parts, misleading info regarding the length and things to see... I recommend investigation at home online and not relying on the information enquiries.
