I like to skiing on the glacier Hintertux, becauce the view is fantastic (the moutain is 3250 m) and you can see the Adriatic sea!

First time with Crystal ski and will use them again, they provided support when needed and not in your face all the time. Ski and snowboard lessons with SMT were fantastic, very nice staff and felt way more competent after - Thank you. Great atmosphere around resort, nice huts, good food and beer, great apres ski. Will definitely return to Mayrhofen.

Just been to mayrhofen with Crystal and stayed in a bed and breakfast (pension erberharter) that was 15 minutes walk from the main lift of penken but there was a regular bus about 30 seconds walk from our apartment which is free if you have a lift pass. Although the accommodation was totally fine you could stay self catering as the shops and supermarket have literally everything you need and this would save you money if you Cooked your evening meal. We drank the tap water instead of buying bottles of it as well and it was much nicer and is totally safe. As a resort mayrhofen is really busy and some days it took 30 minutes just to get onto the penken cable car. But they are hoping to get new cable cars for next winter that can hold more people. The main slopes from the penken were busy and some of the blue runs had big flat areas which is a pain as a snowboarder. Some of the red runs on the penken were steeper than I expected but if you go up to Rastkogel the Reds and Blues were very similar and after fresh snow are really good! You can board right over to Egglam if you take the right route and that is also enjoyable, we did it in a whiteout! Again there was a free bus back as well which was only about 25 minutes. The ahorn is also a decent set of runs and doesn't get as busy despite the white lounge being up there. After fresh snow we came down the black run all the way to the bottom and it was great, but thinking about the gradient of some of the Reds up the penken area the black was not much different. We also came down black 5 from the ahorn a couple of days later and it was treacherous; it was madly icy and no fun so be careful when you choose to come down it if your not as confident. There's a bus from the penken up to the ahorn but it does only take about 5 minutes to walk it. The town of mayrhofen is lovely with loads of restaurant choices and places for drinks. Plenty of sports shops and souvenir shops as well. As mentioned the spar was great and you could get a fresh sandwich made up for a couple of euro. We paid €20 to crystal to join a ski away day over to Gerlos during the week and we didn't realise that your lift pass for Mayrhofen actually covers you there as well so it really is good value. We only paid crystal as it was a dedicated social ski with a rep but you could get the train over there which I don't think cost a lot. The runs over at Gerlos were amazing not too busy plenty of lifts and runs which all linked up really nicely. Defo worth a visit for a change of scenery and there's probably more than a days worth of riding as well. I'd recommend getting the most out of your time in Mayrhofen by trying all of what's on offer if you can plan it right, the only thing we didn't do was get to the glacier which I'm gutted about. Great resort though!

Absolutely loved my week there boarding. Never was bored one second. Found my runs very quickly but was able to find new and interesting bits if I wanted to. The cues were very manageable when playing it right. Great range!

....and have the best snow. Doesn`t matter if it`s cold or warm. I do not need anything else. All lifts modern and in perfect condition.

All pistes are very well maintained and clearly marked. Although, because of the huge number of skiers, it sometimes took some time to get into the lifts to the higher slopes, once arrived there the crowd dispersed. Normally waiting times at lifts are reasonable and the nice slopes are worth it.

The Mayrhofen ski area is wide and varied but avoid the Penkenbahn and the Penken ski area at all costs. The blue runs in the Penken area (28 and 29) get extremely busy and you basically have to snow plough after a beginner two feet in front of you - not exactly enjoyable skiing. The reds are less crowded but still have a lot of ski schools on them (red 10 for example). The Penkenbahn itself has massive queques of over an hour and a half if you go anytime after 9 am. If you need to get the Penkenbahn it is best to get there at 8 am when it first opens - latest 8.30 am. Head instead to the Zillertal area - a quick train ride and bus away - which is much less busy and offers a range of different runs to choose from, mostly reds. Avoid Ahorn as there is not enough to do there. When coming back from a day's skiing, avoid the Penkenbahn if you can - better to take the Horberg lift down and then a bus. Or wait until 5 pm and then get the Penkenbahn down, when there is less of a queque.

This is an excellent ski resort. Snow machines all around provide excellent ski conditions even in a very dry week. The slopes are varied for all levels. Restaurants all around. In a busy week it is....well, busy. Yet, there is enough room for everyone. Just go for it.

Next year will be better as a new lift will be in place. All you have to do, is to get on a ski bus, to take you to another lift a ten minute ride away.

Hit the lift at the wrong time and the queues are horrendous! New lift being built for next season, twice the capacity so should be greatly improved.
