Great place to see lots of parrots, monkeys, fish, snakes ect, and to learn more about bolivian animals very cheap to get in and the place is kept up nicely if you like a zoo you can't miss going. Theres not a whole lot of animals as its a rather small zoo but you can't beat it for the cost

There are tons of birds, but other then that there are not a lot of other animals. It looks like it's tired . . . all the cages and living areas are worn, it's not kept up real well, and the place is dirty. We have gone 4 or 5 times now because it's not very expensive and because our kids like it since they don't really know what a great Zoo is.

I have seen a lot of zoos around the world and this is by far the worst. Cages for most animals here are way to small. some of the birds can't even spread there wings. The people that run the place are not concerned with animal conditions in the slightest. I would not recommend people visit here unless they are extremely bored.

Interesting collection if animals native to South America. Jaguars cages were to small and very depressing. Lots of free roaming agputis and sloths. Lots of birds

Very nice collection of primates, birds (it had the largest condor I had ever seen) and snakes. The tiger as very impressive too. The zoo is easy to get to (we took a taxi, and it took us 10 minutes from the city centre to arrive).

Sadly I believe that this zoo should be shut down. Animals are in terrible condition. The infrastructure is falling apart. It is great to be able to see local fauna but the cost (to nature) is too high.

Went here with low expectations but was pleasantly suprised it was a nice south American zoo. It is a shame that some animals get huge enclosures and some really small they really need to put the admission price up a little to upgrade some of the enclosures. All in all we had a great day

Having been told by the moronic guards that we could not come into the zoo because the ticket vendor was on lunch (why did they have no-one to take the ticket money when the zoo was still open, and why did the guards not sell the tickets when there were at least 4 people sitting in the ticket booth??), we eventually got inside. The zoo was much better than we anticipated at first, and we appreciated the large aviary along with the cleanliness of the cages holding the smaller birds and mammals. Even the first few jaguar cages we saw seemed OK, but after a while we realized that the zoo simply has too many animals to look after. A dozen big cats lie on concrete floors, or pace up and down foaming at the mouth in abject boredom. Numerous large birds of prey are in cages way too small for them, and the Bolivian visitors do not help matters when they feed the animals crisps and chips, and throw trash into the cages for fun. This zoo, like most zoos, is the only way most people will get to see these animals (they have Giant Anteaters and several Jaguars and Pumas), but it left a bad taste in the mouth. We even shed a little tear over the state of some of the bigger mammals - they are blatantly unhappy - and at 10 Bolivianos for the entrance fee - things are not looking set to improve.

The zoo is very popular and has an interesting diversity, but it doesn't seem there is any logic in the display of the animals. There is pedagogy in the trail, very few explanations of what you're looking at.And more importantly, the wild animals (big cats, bear, vultures) are squeezed in far too small spaces. Not well equipped either.I was upset I gave them my money as apparently they don't use it for their animals.

I didn't expect european standards for sure, but I was still let down a little - as a lot of the animals were quite apathetic. I was told that this may be attributable to the cold weather (20 deg Celsius) which kind of makes sense. The price was fair (10bob) and the size good to spend an hour or two. If you're in Santa Cruz, you should go there - on a sunny day if you can.
