On a good day you can see Mount Taranaki with the lake in the foreground - very scenic and you can drive around to different view points.

Got a suggestion to visit the lake from the hotel's staff. On a nice weather this is a splendid view of mount taranaki.

We enjoyed this walk and wish we had something like this in our town. We were following instructions from a walking brochure picked up but were a little confused with the signage going around the lake as we were hoping to walk up to the ridge line as described in the book (it said you had 2 options; either follow the lake edge or go up on the ridge line) but there wasn't a clear sign at any point telling you where this option was. It said forest access road but we weren't sure if that would take us back down at some stage so stuck to what seemed to be the lake edge track.

This spot is a firm favourite for the people of Taranaki.One a clear summers day, you will struggle to find a more peaceful and stunning spot. Boasts great walks or bike trails along with numerous picnic spots.The only thing that let's this precious spot down is the amount of people who leave their rubbish lying around when countless bins are provided.And also the birds. I understand it's nice to go and fed the birds but if you park up in a few spots you are surrounded with far too many trying to get your food which isn't too peaceful as you try to eat. Maybe that doesn't bother too many people and again will come down to people leaving food lying around for them to get at.Other than that I'd recommend this precious spot to anyone. Also a fantastic spot for photography or painting.
