Went to the Museum of Northern British Columbia, which has artefacts from the First Nations along with information on how the local area was settled, and more recent pieces and information related to the development of Prince Rupert and the Canadian Pacific Railway. An educational way to spend an hour or two.

This place is very attractive from the outside, built as it is from local timber. The theme continues inside with very attractive wood used throughout. The museum is effectively in two large spaces. The front, focussing on historic items would benefit from a more modern interpretive approach & theming. Labelling & context needs improvement, as does some lighting. The second room has mostly Aboriginal cultural displays, & creations & is much better, as all the issues mentioned in the paragraph above are absent, helped by much natural light.Externla photographs do not do the building justice.

The Museum is designed as a long house and is well organized to reveal the history of the area, the pattern of local settlement and activity, and to display a marvellous collection of First Nations artifacts, including some fine contemporary masks, weaving and carvings. Well worth a visit, especially if you can get a guided tour.

Close to town centre and built using huge logs this museum has loads of First Nation artefacts and some amazing cultural exhibits which show how the earliest settlers lived sustainably in the environment.

take one of the guided tours as you get a lot more information than you do on a self guided tour, especially on First Nation Peoples history.

Very impressive museum for the size of the community. Lots of history, plus some great art pieces. Its a very nice facility.

The museum is small, but they have quality artifacts. Things are well displayed and well labelled. Some of the rooms are absolutely awesome. The location is fantastic. Plan to spend a couple of hours and then go get some sea food at Cow Bay.

We spent several hours here learning about the native history of the area. The museum is housed in a stunning building with windows providing a view to the fishing harbor below. All of the exhibits are extremely well done. This museum is a must visit while in Prince Rupert.

This unassuming cedar building houses an interesting array of First Nations artifacts in tasteful and informative arrangement. I have seen this same artifacts at a much larger museum in Anchorage, Alaska. I must say the quality and depth here are on a par with that vast museum. The guide, a local tribesman, was very knowledgeable and engaging. The museum tour was part of our bus tour package, but I would have spent the $6.00 to tour it on my own. If you are interested in First Nations history and artifacts, it is well worth your time. I would say you could tour it in 1 hour to 3 hours, depending on how much you want to read and absorb. Photography is allowed without flash. If you are a large group (15 or more), you might want to arrange to also attend a ceremonial dance inside the log house nearby. Contact the museum for arrangements and pricing. It was fascinating.http://museumofnorthernbc.com
