A must-see when visiting Cape Breton Island. See the fortress as it looked in the 1700's with costumed interpreters. Plan to spend a day but make sure to bring a sweater or jacket ... Louisbourg is often foggy and damp.

A wonderful educational experience for all ages. Good exercise with the walks and trails. Great view of the ocean, great food and beverages in the restaurants, wonderful interpreters. Lots of interesting history.

It was quite windy (bring a jacket!) but such a beautiful day! Got to explore all the different sites of the forteresse. The French language tour was awesome! Funny role playing by the actors everywhere you turn. The bakery is a must! Buy some bread! Had lunch at the paysan's restaurant - soup is DELICIOUS! The only bad thing about our day here was that it took forever for us to get our tickets. The clerk seemed completly useless and took over an hour to get 10 people their tickets - we almost missed the shuttle and the tour because of this. Get there early, just in case!

Our family enjoyed visiting Louisburg Fortress. We felt like we landed on XVIII century and were able to watch how people live and work. We regret that we arrived in the afternoon and were not able to see all the fortress. We will come again for sure.

My husband and I took a cruise, and one of the stops was Sydney Harbour. My brilliant husband decided to rent a car at the last minute and we took a ride out to this amazing hidden gem. If only we had gone sooner! I love this place so very much and would love to be able to spend more time there to see demonstrations, eat in the restaurant and just explore more than we had time for. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves history.

This is an authentically restored 18th century French fortress. Visitors are immersed in the sights and sounds of a vibrant community during that point in history. The animation team adds to the magic of a day spent at Fortress Louisbourg. It is a must see destination when visiting Cape Breton. Something for all visitors - young and old.

I wish that I had bought the six-pound boule at the King's Bakery and made it last more than a day. Delicious. So much history to learn, and understanding New France and the back and forth is so easy here.

Our tour bus took us to the Fortress. There are dozens of buildings and we visited the Chapel, Governors Apartments and several residences. It was cold and windy and we appreciated the complimentary hot chocolate. One docent soldier explained the hardships and expectations of being a soldier in the earlier times. Then the docent loaded a long rifle and fired. It was fun. Several good photo op locations including Frederic Gate.

This is a really great place to visit if you are interested in Canadian history. We have been many times and really enjoy each visit. Excellent staff. Restaurants can be crowded but the food is generally good. We really enjoyed seeing a concert there last summer.

Best historic village to see in Canada. It was good fun to eat at their restaurant where they serve similar food and in the same condition as in the 1700s-1800s.
