There is a greats hike which starts at the lighthouse - we walked across a signing rocks on the beach - they rattled with the waves coming in and going out.

we didn't hike out to the lighthouse but we were able to see it from the fortress. It was very majestic.

We took the short side-trip to the lighthouse. It is not open to the public but there are some great views and photo-ops.

This is not an easy lighthouse to find. You have to go down an unimproved road (Lighthouse Road) that at times is very narrow. When you finally get to the lighthouse, the main attraction is the seascape. The pounding surf makes for excellent photographs almost regardless of the angle of the sun. There is a small sign near the lighthouse that essentially says "foghorn may blast without warning--possible ear damage". But of course you can't read the sign until there. So if you go on a potentially foggy day, do be careful. There are not any stairs or railings. Rocks can be slippery and treacherous. Keep your kids by your side.Either on the way out to or the way back from the lighthouse, be sure and stop along the bay and get some excellent photos of the town and fishing boats. Some of the best vistas are from this road.

It take a bit of driving over rough roads, but the Louisbourg Lighthouse won't disappoint. it's on a lovely piece of land and a rocky coast, and it's very photogenic. We had a great time and took lots of pictures.

10 min drive from down-town Louisburg to the lighthouse. Great coastal walk through the forest. Coastline is dramatic with a view over the bay to the fortress. Original lighthouse ruins from one of the oldest in north america.

View of the Atlantic from here is terrific.......easy climb to get up close to the present lighthouse......foundation of first one is still present. Great boardwalk with described signs.

The Louisbourg Lighthouse is perched prominently on the wild and rugged coastline just outside the town site. The tides are strong and pounding and the rocky outcroppings give the place a true sense of how vital the lighthouse is to the area. This was a beautiful place to visit and due to being early October was relatively crowd free. The area is like Peggy's Cove without the crowds and definitely worthy of a visit when you're in the area.

Beautiful low key nature walk with scenery close to town. Perfect for a quick outing. Boardwalk and crushed gravel trail.

After being at the Fortress for the day..it is a great idea to go to the other side of the harbour & view the Fortress from the Lighthouse. It is an awesome sight..
