The cultural/genealogical centre of this Acadian Region, Les Trois Pignons is handily located on the north side of the village along the Cabot Trail. Easy parking options are available in the large lot behind the building with a few parking spots in front and at the side of the building. A visitor's centre with knowledgeable staff is on the premises as is a small gift shop where you can buy postcards and CD's of local artists, some rug hookings, and other souvenirs. There is also a beautifully presented little museum containing artifacts of the region, with interpretation panels which clearly tell the story of the area. Half of the museum is dedicated to the hooked rug industry - cultural icon of the region. Once you have seen the museum stop in at the Genealogical Centre and visit with Charles-Daniel Roach who has an exhaustive knowledge of the history and genealogy of the area. It is fascinating! Note that the lower level of this building is also home to the local radio station and a recording studio and is also worth a quick visit. There are also washrooms located on this level and on the upper level (always something "good to know"!There are more little hidden gems such as this in Cheticamp. For example, there is a lovely little scenic boardwalk along the harbour just below the main street (Cabot Trail). There is a superb hiking trail which leads to a particularly beautiful (deep) mineral lake. Beautiful beaches, tennis, golf, lots of music, wonderful food and so much more. Plan to stay for a while - you will be glad you did!

This was an unexpected treat to visit this museum. It has beautiful hook rug pieces, some of famous people. The hooked rugs are beautfully done. There are also some antique pieces of furniture.

What a beautifully laid out museum - we could have spent much longer there looking in detail at all the exhibits in the Home Life area, many of which we remembered from our youth. A young lady demonstrated the art of rug hooking and made it look so easy.Half the museum has framed rugs made by two ladies on display including two huge ones which took more than six months to complete!

This is a special type of museum which features both its agricultural heritage - with an impressive array of old equipment and tools - but, especially, because it features the history of the local cottage rug hooking industry, the Cheticamp hooked rug of the 1930s having achieved international acclaim. It features many examples of the evolution of the Cheticamp rug hooking but is especially informative about the early history of the extraordinarily skilled rug hooking that is so important to the history of this wonderful Acadian village..

I found a mention of this museum on the Nova Scotia Doers and Dreamers guide and thought it MIGHT be worth a stop if I had time. Well, thank goodness I did. Even my male partner came away from this visit waxing lyrical. As an ex-pat Canadian, his French was long forgotten, and as a Kiwi, mine was non-existent so we felt reticent about entering this museum and having to confess our inability to speak any other language than English. We were instantly made welcome and and watched in marvel as the two staff members spoke both languages interchangeably around us. Their hospitality and willingness to share their knowledge was just so infectious and was a credit to the museum and their wonderful village of Cheticamp. Please take the time to stop here even if rug hooking is not your passion - the history around this part of the Acadian culture is worth learning about and the level of skills that will unfold before your eyes, is remarkable. My wife is rug hooker so this was mandatory visit. Besides a nice presentation on rug hooking and how it is done in the areal , also some good history of the area. Style of rug hooking is very unique to the area.

Well worth a visit should you be in Cheticamp. Interesting rug weaving and furniture. Helpful staff. An interesting introduction to the history of the area

This is a small museum but it gives you an idea what life was like for the Acadian people in this area so many years ago. The kids had a chance to try their hand at rug hooking too, which they loved. The walls are adorned with beautiful rug hooks. I don't think we spent more than an hour here, but it was a nice place to stop. Staff was very friendly too.

This cultural center serves not only as a museum but also as the tourist information center for Cheticamp. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made some excellent suggestions for local activities. We also went through the museum and were very impressed by the exhibits of hooked rugs that were made by local artisans. Some of these rugs are of significant historical importance, picturing royal personages, US presidents and other famous subjects.

This is a small museum with some impressive exhibits on rug hooking. There was even a teenager busily hooking when I was there who was all too happy to demonstrate the technique.
