A rug hooking museum might sound like a yawn, but it's not the rug hooking that was popular in the 1970s. This is the art of making actual rugs as the local people used to do for cash. The museum explains the social history of rug hooking in the area. It also has some truly beautiful rugs hooked by the most famous artist. Some of them have over 500 colors of wool. The portrait of Jackie Kennedy is as true as a photograph.

I thought this would be a bit boring but we gave it a look - boy was I surprised..... This is well worth a stop while in Cheticamp. The rug displays were amazing and you really learned to appreciate the ability and artistic talent that goes into creating some of these rugs - they really are works of art...The hooking demonstrations really drive the point home - especially if you "TRY" to give it a shot yourself... They also have some exhibits that depict early life in this area which was also interesting. The stop was informative and the Elizabeth Lefort Gallery was simply amazing. All in all a good stop and well worth a visit. The staff are warm and friendly and anxious to share their knowledge with you.

This is a small museum you could miss as you go through Cheticamp. That would be a shame. It is well organised and has interesting original exhibits. You might not think pegged rugs are your thing but they're fun and skilfully done. The history or the Arcadian people is also challenging and thought provoking.

Learning about hooked rugs may not sound very interesting but it is well worth a stop. Beautiful hooked rugs are displayed and all were made by the same woman. This is an art form that produced priceless works of art. We very much enjoyed learning and viewing 28 or so samples of the life work of one talented artist.

Had a rainy day while staying near Cheticamp and my wife suggested we see the hooked rug museum. So she dragged myself and our two sons aged 20 and 22 along. Surprise surprise, we all loved it. We hooked on (no pun intended) with a tour bus group and got the commentary from a guide. The history was fascinating and the examples presented were amazing. Hard to believe that some were not paintings or photos. I would encourage anyone to devote a half hour (or more) to touring this attraction. Definitely worth while.
