Apple beer is amazing and apple jacks (bourbon and cider) not bad either! Go by September before it sells out. Apple picking looks like fun; will try next year.

I go apple picking every year but this was my first time going to a farm in Ontario. We picked this farm because all the other ones were already done for the season. The drive from downtown Toronto to Stouffville was a beautiful one, it was very scenic. When we pulled up to the farm the parking issue already became apparent. People were parking on the side of the road because the farm's parking was full. We ended up parking on the side of the road where we thought had the least lowest ditch. Some cars were deep in the ditches where their cars were severely tipping sideways. The apples trees were seen from the outside and they were very small and looked like a lot had lost their apples. We paid the $7.50 entrance fee per person (I've never heard of a farm charging an entrance fee) and got a bag. I guess each bag you get is $20 for 20 lbs. If you got two bags then you get to pick one field pumpkin for free. WINE: The wine store was near the entrance and we bought a few bottles. The iced wine was $19.99 and was packaged very nicely. We also got the apple meade which was $14. They had a nice selectionAPPLES: I was looking for cortland apples to bake a pie for thanksgiving but after going through 4-5 rows we didn't find a single on any trees. I had to go all the way in the back of the furthest row to find some apples on the trees. My fiance found a few trees that had THE MOST DELICIOUS HONEY CRISPS ever. The trees containing them had one small sign on it. The selection was small and a lot of rows were roped off marking the apples as "unriped" I happened to pick one spencer apple and it was riped and delicious. We walked around a little more and saw there there were still some raspberries on the bushes which was cool.PUMPKINS: The selection was pretty massive, we walked a pretty big field to pick them and there were some really nice ones.Overall: We got a bunch of apples but really had to go searching for the good ones, we managed to fill two full bags I'm not sure I would pay $70 for a day of apple picking again....but it was a fun and beautiful day. I got to make a great pie of it.

This farm winery has great potential, but it seems like the emphasis is on massive revenue. Cars were actually lined up and parked for a very long line on each sides of the highway, before you could even enter the parking lot. Police were on hand to direct the traffic coming into the parking lot. It was the worst kind of traffic jam. But we went in and gave it a chance. Then there was a very long lineup to enter....at $7 per person! There is an area for children that happens to be right in the main area. You couldn't get to the orchard without going through the children's area. The kids were running rampant and it was insanely chaotic. The parents were more concerned with taking selfies than actually watching their kids. Many people were actually pushing strollers down the grass between the apple trees. Who does that and who even allows that? Other orchards I've been to have had a "no-stroller" policy and the parents have either carried their children or used something like a Baby Bjorn. It was hard to navigate the orchard while trying to avoid the carriages and when picking you always had to move over to let the carriages go around. Many children were screaming and crying, no doubt bored or hot or whatever, which was.not their fault, while the adults standing between the trees were peeling the apples with knives and navigating with drinks and fries in the orchard. It was an unruly mob. Some trees were roped off with signs saying DO NOT PICK, but of course people ignored that also, pushing strollers between the trees and snapping branches. Leaving was just as horrible. There were understandably long lineups due to the incredible volume of people. Taking into account the cover charge to get in, it made the total apple purchase very expensive. It was a MOB scene! If you want peace and beauty, stay away. If you want lineups and chaos and zero direction or control by orchard staff then come here. Just mind the traffic cops and parking lot jockeys with their walkie talkies.. Oh, and don't use the port-a-potties. Just don't - and don't ask why.

I would recommend against Applewood Farm Winery and Orchard. We went there this weekend and had to pay $7.50 each just to get into the orchard to pick apples! Also, apples that were said to be "unripe and therefore off-limits for picking" instead were perfectly ripe, fancy-grade apples. I would rather pay more to pick fancy-grade apples than to be restricted to picking two varieties of ho-hum apples and told the rest of the orchard's apples are unripe when that is clearly not the case. There are definitely better orchards out there. We prefer Siloam Orchards, but their crop was damaged by hail this summer.

I recently moved further north form the city and decided to go exploring. I found this place out of blind luck while driving to a little petting farm. I saw the sign on the street and decided to give it a try. I've been back several times since my first visit. The area is not really huge, but its a good size especially if you got kids. There's a small area with a sandbox, swings, slides, tractors, hay stack, tables etc. There's even a food truck that serves fries and hotdogs. Apple fritters seem to be a specialty but they get sold out fast. The tractor comes by every 20 minutes or so and takes you on a ride. It's a fun place for young children.The winery. That's really the reason I go. It's really good. I've never had apple wine before and was surprised at how good it is. They got the beer too. It's fantastic. The best is the mead. It's some sort of apple wine/mead mix and it is delicious. My wife loves it. They have tastings there and seem happy to help you find a good wine for you.The people there have always been very friendly. I've been to a few farms in the area and found that this one is unique because of the wine. It's smaller than most of the other ones I have visited, but judging by the traffic this place gets; it's probably going to get bigger. A good day for families with young children. Right, they have strawberry, apple, pumpkin and some other things that you can go out and pick. I haven't eaten an apple off a tree since I was in grade 3. Very nostalgic. I went to Applewood Farm Winery this afternoon after a family walk in the area. They charge $7.50 per person to enter, no apples included. For a family of 5 to even think about picking apples was going to cost $37.50! It is ridiculous to charge $7.50 for a child of 3 or 4 to enter. I do not recommend Applewood Farms for any family outing.
