Neys Prov. Park is on the shore of Lake Superior and offers a variety of camping sites. You can camp near the beach in open and somewhat vulnerable sites, or you can camp in the forest surrounded and protected by trees. Both are attractive and different experiences. It's a great place to canoe, on the river or on the lake if the weather allows. Hiking is excellent with many trails and some that are challenging. Marathon is about 20 kms. away and offers all amenities. We found the occasional sound of a train passing by not to be any bother. It's a huge campground with all the expected facilities. Park staff does a good job keeping them useable. You could stay here for a week or two and be satisfied.

Neys Provincial park is a very good place to experience the north shore of Lake Superior. It is very accessible. There a number of very good hikes. The hikes and all the park has to offer can be learned at the park visitors center. This was the site of a POW camp during the second world war so there is quite a number of pictures and material about that. We did the Point Trail hike and would highly recommend it. Pictures below will give you and idea why. It is quite and easy trail to do.

I had no expectations for this park and it was probably my favourite of the many parks we went to on our Circle Tour. It has a very interesting history, the visitor centre is quite good, and if you walk out to the rocky point the geology exhibits/plaques are absolutely fascinating. It is gorgeous, with true "Group of 7" views, gently sloping rocks, azure water, and boreal forest. It is possible to go in and spend only 2 hours there and still enjoy it - we did the beach walk up and over the point. As a bonus on our way out we saw a shy little bear wandering the park who wanted nothing to do with us but was a real thrill to see.

We picked this park for a picnic and walk in the midst of a long driving day. The staff at the visitors centre were friendly and knowledgeable, inquiring as to our interests before boring us with things we weren't really interested in. After learning a bit about the history, they pointed us towards the beach where we picnicked on a lovely boulder before going for a gentle walk along the beach. At the end of the beach we met up with another trail that took us briefly through the forest to a point of land on the lake with some beautiful views and some old decaying boats. I would definitely recommend this park to anyone passing though the area on a nice day.

Great stop to learn thing or two about geology of the region while walking on beautiful beach. The walk starts on sandy beach and follows educational boards installed on top of the different rock formations. We ended the hike on the beach full of rock looking like unpolished bowling balls or dinosaur's eggs. Perfectly clear water of Lake Superior and more all shapes and colors rocks right below the surface.

All the parks in Canada are pretty great, the ones on Lake Superior especially, but this one has a history center that can tell you all about the POW camp that was there. They even have a book with pictures and stories from the camp!It is a unique stop on the Superior Circle tour and is well worth it!

I grew up in Terrace Bay and visited this park many times with my family during the mid to late 60's. Much Later in as an adult in the early 2000's we hiked into a crack in the granite upwards several hundred feet. This was across the railroad trestle all the way to the top of the mountain. The view of the park, Lake Superior, the unfolding beaches and raw forest was breathtaking.

This park has the cleanest facilities I have ever experienced. I would definitely stay there again. My campsite was right next to the lake. The beach and the water was so clean. I thought that the water would be freezing, but because we were in a shallow bay, the water was quite tolerable.

We spent three nights at Neys on September 1-4. It was chilly and there were not many people there at the time so not sure how busy it normally gets. The beach was AMAZING! All the driftwood makes the beach so interesting and I am very happy they do not allow people to burn it! Not only is it nice to look at, it is also important for the beach ecology. How wasteful and selfish to burn it!! We had no trouble with rules and were up past 11pm. <end rant> Anyways, the beach is huge and we only saw a handful of people on it. Lots to explore and see. One of the best beaches I have ever been on. I went in swimming and it was cold but actually not bad for September.We went on the Dune hike which was nice, we wish we went on more hikes but we had our cat with us and was worried about dogs. Our bengal is a fantastic leash walker :) If you like hiking google "the Crack" in Neys as apparently there is a really neat trail that goes through a huge crack in a rock wall. We didn't have a chance to look for it and when we asked someone they didn't seem to know what we were talking about but we will find it when we return next year. We also rented a canoe and paddled down the pic river. It was so nice to see the clifts, bridges and many waterfalls but it was challenging to get up the river with the strong current. Not sure if this was due to it being late in the season? Perhaps the current was stronger? We turned around after about an hour of paddling. Watch out for rocks in the river as it can get pretty shallow in parts. We are two confident, fit paddlers it might be tricky for beginners but again not sure if it was due to the time of year.We were on a site(section 3) that had a path to the beach and it was lovely to hear the waves at night. The sites were spaced far apart and were well kept. They were cutting down trees at the time we were there which was loud one afternoon and branches/trees were left all over the camp roads and some roads were blocked off with pilons. We just went around the pilons as we wanted to go to the boat launch. This may be a problem for some people but I think they only do this kind of maintenance in September. Also, the visitors center was closed when we went so it was hard for us to find information - Not sure why they close the visitors center when the park is still open. We will have to return earlier in the season next year :)The huge rocks of the Canadian Shield and magnificent lake superior on a rare sand beach! Beautiful! Must camp if you are in the area.

We really enjoyed our 3 days camping at Neys Provincial Park. The sites generally lack views to the lake (with the exception of the RV area) but are very private and a number of them have paths leading to the beach. The sand in some areas of the beach is so white and soft it feels like velvet! The weather is unpredictable, but we had a nice week at the end of August. Unfortunately the water was too cold for swimming, but the sand is nice and warm for lazing about. Beautiful driftwood. Great small hikes for kids as well as a playground.
