Expensive for what is basically a small zoo - but a great chance to see your safari animals up close. Tip someone (we paid four bucks each), and you can pet a cheetah. Also, a nice park - fun to bring picnic foods, or stop by for a drink at the eco lodge.

Kisumu is the main commercial centre on the shores of Lake Victoria region and only second to Kampala in Uganda. There are many attractions in the area like the crying stone of Ilesi, Lake Simbi, Takawiri nd Ndere Islands, Kit Mikayi etc. For animal lovers, The Impala Sanctuary is just wonderful. The wardens are always ready to provide information and the close range picture shots amazing. The sanctuary has more than impalas and one can see other animals that would be difficult to see in the wild. I think it is better now than I last saw it two years back and is positioned to improve. It is worth a visit and worth the dime!

I've been several times to this place and i really enjoy it. At first you should know that if you are not a resident you'll be charged a much higher than a resident or a Kenyan.Carry some water and maybe food as i never got to find a shop inside for snacks. there's a beautiful resort but it's expensive. you'll get to see many animals including lions, hyena, leopard, cheetah, baboons, ostriches, giraffe and others.there are only three free roaming animals are the zebras, the playful monkeys and the Impalas but don't come very close to the Zebras as their kicks can be deadly!! the best time for you to visit is the feeding time.. that's usually on Mondays from around 1 p.m. try to talk to the guards ;) to take you around or just follow them. the place is usually hot so take a sun screen if your skin is sensitive. you can also take a boat ride to watch the hippo but always bargain the price... it's a nice experience and i really enjoy it over and over.

The park is run by Kenya Wildlife Services is clean and well kept. Try to visit in the afternoon to watch the big cats being fed. The dainty impala roam freely, as do the monkeys. Its a big park so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and give yourself a few hours to enjoy the animals and the nature walk trails. Best of all, carry a blanket and a picnic and sit near the water in the shade. Bliss doesn't get better than this in Kisumu

The place is very clean the wildlife are well kept.Except one ranger who is abit arrogant at the main gate where people pay entrance fee.I suggest the rangers and workers be provided with name tags for easy identification incase of misbehavior to the clients.
