Captivating panoramic views from the top after trekking up the island. If you're lucky, you'll spot some zebras from the peak otherwise don't get you're expectations high as this will depend on the wildlife's feeding cycle and availability of shade or during the cooler periods of the day. The 3 main criticism points are;1. Why does KWS charge tourists almost 10 times more than residents i.e $20 2. Why does KWS charge ENTRY FEE in the first place when you don't see any tangible developments in the Island, there's barely any trees for shade there!!!3. KWS needs to plant more trees in that island URGENTLY!!

I went to the island with two friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed our time there! We drove the 40 kilometers from Kisumu so we could take a shorter (and cheaper) boat ride to the island (as opposed to taking a boat from Tilapia Beach at Kisumu). The island is beautiful, with rolling hills covered in grass. In some areas, there is dense forest. The views are fabulous and we enjoyed watching the zebra. There aren't many marked trails but we did some of our own trail-blazing, spending a great 4 hours on the island. You can take a guide or go on your own. You pay for entry to the island at the KWS office and also pay for the boat ride.

Ndere Island is nice, with beautiful views. There aren't any places to sit or rest etc and it is difficult to spot wildlife.

The boat ride to and from Ndere Island is beautiful. Make sure to travel with an experienced guide - I would recommend a KATO certified agency like Integritour, because my trip with another agency was not well planned. The island itself is beautiful, but is a bit of hike. It's not too challenging, but you should be prepared with hiking shoes, water, and a small snack. We didn't see any animals while on the island, but apparently it is well known for hippo and alligator sightings, in addition to some land animals like impala and zebra.

One of Kisumu's best kept secrets. Out of this world feeling. It's said to be where 'Safaricom' shot it's famous commercial. This is the second national park after Hell's Gate that allows hiking and camping. The antelopes... The zebras... It's possible to be the only camper on the huge island for the night as it's rarely visited . . .Beware of crocs on the shores and baboons on your food and litter. One of the best island experience for me

Located about 40km from Kisumu town. This is a national reserve littered with giraffes, monkeys, impalas etc, take a boat ride to the island and have a hike of a lifetime. Peaceful and serene, ideal for a picnic with family or friends

This park is tucked hidden in lake Victoria about 80km from Kisumu off the Kisumu Bondo Highway. The road is motorable all weather with adequate signage right into the park. The park offices are on the mainland together with a lush picnic /camping ground. The park itself is a 10-minute motorboat launch into the open lake. A magnificent sight it is with a ring of forest along the shores and the top covered in long grass. The animals here are in some form of paradise and sighting them will take a good investment in time. All they do is eat, groom and sleep. They are all grazers with virtually no predators. The rare sitatunga antelope is preserved here; while stocks last. Finally, the area around the lake is abuzz with activity and congeniality. Do not bypass the Legio Maria shrine at the 3km junction to the park to see a traditional African religion and its orders and practise. The site is holy and you will need your shoes off your feet to venture further past the gate. Carry your own food and drink for this trip and to get the best, camp over at the island. The guide who doubles as the coxswain is a local. His charges for the boat ride factor in a tip already but that is left to your discretion.

The Lake Victoria is so awesome... just to motor out and watch the fishing boats on the way, and see the great Talapia caught is a bonus, even a hippo or 2 can liven you day.
