Perhaps if I visit 14 fall at the rainy season it will be better, but on the dry season it is horrible.Forget about relaxing ; you will find only foamy, green and stink water fall.

I went there with a missionary to revisit. I have been here xtimes. But this time was the worst sight of 14 Falls I have ever seen.First we were wondering what is smelling as we came near. Then we went close to the water.A gagging green smear of a stinking substance in the name of water. Even the white frothy famous foams we used to chase to touch were green and a gagging sight. Nauseated by the smell we left immediately...

The Fourteen Falls are truly beautiful, just as any waterfall attracts most people this does as well. For its natural beauty it gets a VERY GOOD. Definitely a disaster is the pollution of Athi River, the falls and its surroundings. The guide told us it would have been a bad day to visit as it was raining in Nairobi and all the taka taka would have arrived here. The smell was indeed very strong and water had a nearly black color. Ok, what comes down the river needs to be taken care of by some higher authorities but I have to say that the caretakers of this place could already make a huge difference by collecting all the rubbish which lies around there. I wonder what the entrance fees are charged for? This is nature and completely polluted by humans. Official price for non-residents is 15 USD per person, residents 100 KSH, shouldn't those fees help to keep the place clean? So on the human side it would deserve a TERRIBLE. Hopefully something will happen here. After all a spectacular spot! If you decide to go ask the guide to walk you to the Hippo pool. You will find some hippos after 10 minutes walk. Also here the water is completely black. Apparently water is used for irrigation as well but not when so dirty. The guide told us they would have already complained to the county minister but nothing happened so far. Let's hope!

I'm sure on a normal day the Fourteen Falls are beautiful, but this was no normal day. We headed to the Falls expecting to see something like the online pictures suggested but when we arrived it was quite the opposite. The Nairobi Water Company or whoever is responsible for the sewerage and treatment works had released its waste into the river on this day. The falls resembled an apocalyptic vision, the river ran Oil black and stank of Ammonia and Fuel. It was a gross and complete spoiling of what's considered a natural beauty spot. What we saw was a environmental disaster as Nairobi's waste ran freely and rancidly down over the falls. The people responsible for this disaster should be ashamed, although as long as they don't see it I'm sure they're not bothered. If you want to visit, It may be worth checking if the water is clean or having one of its waste days.Truly disgusting.

The falls were clearly the beautiful and a good sight, with many places to walk around and relax and the falls themselves being very impressive. However, the amount of garbage running down the side of the river under the falls and, well pretty much everywhere, is a real eye sore and certainly limits the experience. We also had a bad experience on the gate as a couple of very un-official looking men attempted to charge us $50 each on entry! All in all worth seeing but be warned. Don't pay more than 500 shillings each and watch out for guides who want to delve deeper into your pockets, settle a price first! (And don't let it be too high) We can only hope that the site is taken over and offered protection as it could be a brilliant tourist attraction in an area with little competition for that market.

This fall is a beautiful place if a little input was invested. It is a great afternoon outing for picnic or if you have time, to make a stop over to stretch a little. If you plan to have lunch there, plan to bring your own food. You will be charged a fee, both for entry and photographs :-)..On weekends, expect to find a very busy place, families coming to have afternoons out. For birders the white-browed sparrow weaver and grey- headed sparrow weaver, mousebirds, sunbirds among others can be viewed. It is unfortunate that this place is neglected and the authorities seem not to care at all. Washrooms are pit toilets and the river seems to be carrying some garbage. Despite all that, it is a beautiful place for a stop over.

With nothing much more on offer around Thika, a visit to 14 falls is definitely worth the effort. Very very basic in regard to amenities at the falls, but the experience of walking across the river is both a lot of fun and a great way to spend a few hours with friends or family. Be warned there are only basic pit toilets available. Reasonable cost to enter the falls considering the money assists people in the local area. Guides are available to walk you across the river. Will cost you a small amount which again goes towards supporting the local people.
