Excellent museum, taking you through the history of Egypt from primitive times up until now. Beautiful artefacts on display from various tombs and very good explanations in English of life in those times. It is an easy walk from the Old Cataract Hotel.

Don't miss this museum when you are in Aswan. We went on the recommendation of our taxi driver, who was Nubian. We are so glad we did, it was one of the highlights of our visit. We could have spent hours there, there is so much to see. Treasures which were saved from the flooding of the dam, mummies, sculptures, hieroglyphics. There is a replica of a Nubian village, which is very well done, giving a real insight into the lives of the Nubians. The museum closes around 4.00 p.m., I think, and then opens again later. Check the website. We were caught short of time and had to rush around the outside exhibitions. You need plenty of time for these. It's a lovely place to walk a round with nice gardens, a rebuilt Nubian house, a. Church, caves with original cave paintings, etc. I'd love to go back. There is an amazing exhibition about the excavations which saved the Philae temple and more . Do not miss!

We walked towards the Old Cataract hotel for dinner, but it was still too early (around 3:30/4 p.m.), so we decided to kill time at the Nubian Museum. There were some interesting artifacts, and there were lots of signs in English. However, the signs somehow managed not to be very informative, and we didn't really feel like we understood the Nubian civilization much better after we left. The location did provide a nice view of the city, however, and since we didn't go in with high expectations, we weren't left too disappointed.

A very short walk from the Cataract Hotel, the Nubian Museum is exceptionally well done. It's clean and organized and coherent and everything you'd want in an Egyptian museum. It's also very diverse. Not only does it house a wonderful variety of Pharaonic artifacts, but it covers the Nubian history and culture nicely. There are great sections on the influence of Christianity and Islam in the region over time, and the museum documents the pre-dam archeology with some stunning black and white photographs. There are some excellent models of temples and some life-sized displays showing Nubian culture. I didn't spend much time out in the gardens, but I would imagine when the water is running, it makes for a lovely stroll through the grounds. I'd add the Nubian Museum to your Aswan itinerary. If you're looking for souvenirs, there are several Nubian ladies busy at work just inside the main museum's entrance to the left of the great hall. They have many hand-made items for sale at very reasonable prices.

A wealth of wonderful exhibits and great grounds, which also incorporate museum elements. Things are labelled and well presented - but it would be worth doing a bit of reading beforehand. It is quite modern on one hand, but beautifully roughed up by the Egyptian-ness of it. Custodians chatting at high volume and Nubian women selling wares in the foyer - like a mini souk.

Perfect built and annotated museum. Very cheep. Has a simple serpentine pathway to follow in order not to miss anything. Has all about Nubia from prehistory up to now. The only bad thing that it is opened only from 9 am to 1 pm and from 4 to 8:30 pm.
