Great place to spend the day checking everything out. From antique an Alaska state trooper vehicle to fire apparatus, to railroad items, to vintage snowmachines this place has it all and more. I come here about twice a year and always find something I've missed before.

We didnt plan on stopping here on our trip to alaska, even though i had seen it on trip advisor, but on our drive from seward all the way to denali, we needed a brake, we saw it from the road and decided to go in, right before closing. the attendant was very nice, gave us a family rate instead of charging us individually. The museum is ok, there´s lots of stuff to see. However, it seems a bit forgotten, maybe a bit dusty, dark..... So, if you´re near by, go ahead and stop in. an hour or less should do it.

I was looking for a place to interview in the Meadow Lakes area and found MATI. I'm not sure if I'm just surprised there's a museum out there or how very interesting the history displayed there! A gem for sure!As you drive in you'll see railroad trains facing you, #1000 and #1500 and coming from a railroad family, that's impressive. Military planes, emergency vehicles, planes, agriculture equipment and stories galore. Seriously, if you love Alaska, you want to visit!

This museum is a collection of antiques, old trains, old planes and historical information on Alaska. I wouldn't recommend it for young kids, but for older folks it was interesting. Good for the price.

My husband and I went here and thought we'd spend an easy 30 minutes or so. Wow, were we wrong! It was several hours later that we left. An amazing collection and assortment of fabulous historical artifacts are on display -- from the automobile, to motors, to boats, early aviation, a little clothing, telephone and telecommunications, everything transportation is outside where my husband spent at least an hour alone checking it all out. He was in heaven! I stayed inside, happily reading about and viewing all the antiques on display. A fabulous time! Stop in when you have some time, though, and try not to rush. It's a little like a miniature Smithsonian. Fabulous and bravo Wasilla for keeping it so lovely!

First off, it's seasonal and it's closed in winter. I was driving by and followed the signs on the highway to get there and was a bit surprised to see a locked gate (but it's only a few mins off the main highway, so not a big deal). So plan you visit :)But since most of the exposition is outdoors and the fence is see through, it's fairly easy to get an idea of what is inside. When I was traveling in Alaska, it looks like it's so expensive to bring any heavy stuff there and it's also hard to get rid of it, and it means that Alaska is full of old machines, cars, planes, trains etc. Some times they are left where they found their last stop, some times they are being recycled (like I saw an old plane on someones property converted into something useful) and some times they are turned into tourist attractions. The problem with most of those places is the poor conditions. Since they stay outside and the Alaskan weather is harsh, they often look more like junk yards than museums - rusty metal, flat tires, peeling off paint etc. So I guess it's close enough to the highway and cheap enough to justify a visit if you like old machines, but this is clearly a few notches off the Smithsonian grade.

If you are in Wasilla it is certainly worth your time to stop by the Alaska Museum of Transportation. They have a wide variety of vehicles, planes, and trains on site. Sadly most of them are outside and uncovered so they are not in musuem condition. However, their collection is still worth checking out.

From cars, trains, tractors and more you'll find it here. It's got an awesome museum and gift shop too.

Most of the exhibits are outdoors ... interesting exhibits on the history of Alaska (although my husband, an engineer, found them more interesting than I did :D )
