Spring Meadow Lake State Park is located on the outskirts of Helena. It was once a "superfund" hazardous waste cleanup site, but the cleanup resulted in a rather pleasant park. There is the lake, which is moderately scenic, and a flat trail of about 1 mile around it. Picnic areas, fishing pier, outhouse. For Helena residents, it offers some modest amenities. But for out of town visitors, it is really not worth the effort. Better hiking exists on Mount Helena or the South Hills trail system (both about a mile or so away).

It is a nice place for those who like to swim. They have some paddle boats that can be rented there. There are places to have a picnic and sit in the shade. It is a scenic spot. Good for a family outing.

Although this park isn't well known for having the cleanest waters, the park offers swimming, fishing, and fun. I fish in this lake often and have caught sunfish, bass, and rainbow trout. There is a nice walking path around the whole lake that visitors often walk, and is frequently used for an exercise route.

This is a great little park and lake - the kids can swim - paddle boat and fish or just sun bath. Bathroom facilities - lots of birds, fish for sunfish, trout and perch. Relaxing and fun - nice paved path all the way around the lake.

Folks don't have to go far for great pond fishing. We have it right in our city limits. The park has a couple of fishing docks or you can go right from shore. It is stocked with rainbow trout and has a small mouth bass population. Don't miss the Wild Montana place on the south shore.

I was there in the evening. The sun was setting as I walked around the small lake. The water was crystal clear. I saw an otter and some ducks but no other wildlife. It would be a great place also for a picnic with well placed tables, many have shelters from the rain. Open during daylight hours only. There is a $5 fee for those who are not Montana residents. MT residents, no charge.
