We take our group of boys and girls here for field trips to learn a lot about the forest. The staff is really great and our kids like going here.

Most Sundays at 3pm there are educational activities led by rangers that appeal to all ages. Through the years we've taken the dogs who enjoy the trails and several children (ages 6 to teens) who've enjoyed the talks (hummingbirds, squirrels, wildlife, and fauna). A few times a year they have a night walk with flashlights and I never seem to catch them! The Visitor's Center is small but well constructed with a good layout.

Located less than an hour from Fayetteville and Raleigh NC, Weymouth Woods is a quiet oasis from either concrete jungle. The half dozen walking trails are family friendly (but not wheelchair friendly) and well marked. There are signs on each path pointing out wildlife who make this forest their homes. This 930 acre preserve of longleaf pine boasts of having the oldest known living longleaf pines that is estimated to be 467 years old and the endangered red cockaded woodpeckers. Before hiking, you may want to stop at the visitors' center and the natural history museum which are staffed by knowledgeable and energetic rangers.
