what a delightful stop...we had the best time chatting up the museum attendant and her friend...although there is no fee, donations are accepted so we put $10.00 in the box and spent about 21/2 hours here...it was fun and informative...but the best time was talking to the ladies about the town and their trips to switzerland and their swiss heritage...it's well worth it...my only suggestion would be to have better swiss trinkets for purchase...we got a swiss flag and magnet, but we looked everywhere for a swiss hoodie or longed-sleeve t, shopping bag... ANYTHING w/swiss flag or switzerland on it we would have purchased!...I. LUV. SWITZERLAND!

We were greeted with a smile and overview of the museum. When we finished she recommended a bakery, restaurant and things to see in the area. Everyone should make this their first stop in Sugarcreek.

Upon realizing their was a dearth of shops in the "downtown" or Main Street area of Sugarcreek, my wife and I looked for an activity to spend time on. That's when we found the Alpine Hills Museum. It was very charming and the displays were informative. There wasn't even a formal fee to enter the museum, but we gave them a donation regardless. It's three floors, so if you have difficulty with stairs it may not be easily accessible, but its very well worth your time. It's a very cool primer to Ohio's Amish Country. Recommended.

We visited the museum on our weekend getaway to Sugarcreek and really enjoyed our interaction with the exhibits and the very nice man staffing the welcome desk. There are three floors to explore. Make sure you see the movie in the music room as well as at the displays that have narration. Lots of unique items to see here!

I had the opportunity to visit SugarCreek, Ohio recently. A native New Yorker, who moved to the SouthWestern area of Ohio, I had no idea this sweet, yes, I said sweet, town existed. Sugarcreek is nestled in Amish country and is known as the Little Switzerland of Ohio. How about that? On one corner, in the quaint, charming town one will find the world's largest (working quite well, thanks) Coo-Coo Clock! The Alpine Hills Museum boasts three floors of artifacts from Sugarcreek and the surrounding areas. A visitor gets a peek at the unusual heritage of the Swiss and Amish early days. There is a video, recommended upon entrance which presents the Amish and Swiss immigrants interaction and development in the area. There are displays of 1890's fire equipment, a cheese house, Amish kitchen, various crafts and tools. Impressive - the Swiss Alp Horns. The staff is welcoming and informative. We were reminded to visit the Annual Swiss Festival on the last weekend of September. I visited with my peers, however, I will return with children, making it a family outing.

Alpine Hills Historical Museum was a great look into the past of how Swiss and German immigrants lived in Ohio in the past. Very nice, friendly staff and excellent displays.
