Sorry, but I couldn't seem to find or add a link to Sautee Nacoochee Village or shopping.Recently, my husband and I visited Sautee Nacoochee on a Friday and couldn't wait to visit the village shops. The problem, most of them were closed and so were the wineries. We enjoyed the little country store which has a little of this and a little of that (although the lady at the jewelry counter was a little over bearing). There was a pottery behind the Nacoochee Tavern pizzeria that was open and pottery was ok. . Drove all the way out to the Gourd Place and it was closed. The coffee house was open and the Lavender shop was open. There was also a neat antique store (on 75 going away from Helen) that was also open. Took us a total of an hour, without going into Helen to visit what we thought was going to be this unique village of stores that had "mountain crafts" and other homemade items. Wondering if this was due to it being the "off" season or because it was a weekend. If you want to shop, you will have to go into Helen or to Clarksville.

Look at the pottery and art work, attend musical programs, and enjoy the improv programs.A real gem in the mountains of north Georgia. The recent visit is just one of many.

For me the folk pottery museum is one of the most culturally significant places in the North Georgia Mountains. I visited with low expectations and was completely impressed. Georgia was the home of one of the most renowned potters so if you know the name Meaders then you must pay a visit here and see the collection. Even if you don't know the Meaders reputation you should visit and see why they were so highly regarded. Take your time and see wonderful works of art.The community center also has a small history museum that explores local history in the Georgia mountains. It is also worth touring. There is a gift shop that features various works of art from local artists. And the center also has a community theater where the performing arts are showcased. Years ago I visited and experienced a wonderful night of live theater. I was told musical acts also perform in the space too.Sautee is near the tourist trap of Helen but worlds apart. The staff were gracious, friendly and were very helpful.

Don't miss the Sautee-Nacoochee pottery museum if you're in the neighborhood. Just a few miles from Helen, Georgia with its fake German alpine environment, the pottery museum is a modern structure of wood and glass that deservedly won awards for its architecture. The museum has nice exhibits of mountain crafts, mainly ceramics made by local potters following centuries-old techniques. The video showing how pottery is made, starting with finding a clay source, all the way to firing the finished pots in a wood-fired kiln is very helpful. Life was really tough in North Georgia right up into the 20th Century. Nearly everything people used was home made and labor intensive. There is also a little history museum and a few shops selling local crafts. The staff is friendly and very helpful.

Juried local arts and crafts (very high quality), local history museum, folk pottery museum, theater. You can spend a couple or three hours here for education and entertainment quite different from most of what is offered in nearby Helen.

It is hard to fathom finding a more varied array of art, history and culture tucked behind such an unassuming facade anywhere else. The community center once was a school, so a first-time visitor is going to be surprised to find an array of the cultural arts plus so much history tucked into its various rooms. And that doesn't take into account the Folk Pottery Museum adjoined to the building. Take some cash to pick up something from one of the many local artists or just to support the mission of the wonderful resource.

Museum is located in a school, that was closed, so nice to see a building be put to use and not left to fall down. The museum allows a lot of hands on, I enjoyed as an adult, sure it would be hit with children. It covers from the native american"s, civil war and the logging era. Pottery museum was educational, has a short movie about the making of pottery, and then several displays of artist of the area. Take time to check out the gift areas, where items are made from local artists. The museum is free, but there is a fee for the pottery museum.

Cute little town with two great wineries nearby! Make sure you visit the general store and look for the Indian mound on the way into Sautee.
