Made the effort to walk some way out of town for the Oriental Museum. Some interesting things in collection but think I had expected a bit more

The Oriental Museum is situated on the Durham University campus and is split over two floors. A modest entrance fee of £1.50 for adults is imo a bargain. The museum has a small cafe and some toilets are situated by the reception desk. The two egyptian rooms are excellent and highlights are two mummies and the statue of the Vizier Paser. A well spent 2 hours. There is a small car park (free) outside which is a godsend as parking restrictions and pay and display are abundant around the Campus and surrounding areas. The Botanical Gardens nearby are a must also on a nice day!

We called in today on an impulse, having visited the botanic gardens opposite. What a surprise - great displays covering all oriental countries, and additionally some artifacts from ancient Egypt which were fantastic. The entrance fees were very reasonable, everwhere was clean and well presented - would not hesitate to visit again in the future.

Visited on saturday 7th march mid afternoon wish we had gone sooner we had two hours to get round but that did not give us enough time to take all the exhibits in . The museum is very interesting and all the exhibits had information about them my daughter enjoyed doing the find the exhibit challenge sheet and also being able to dress uo like the egyptians and japanese lady . A must visit museum if you are in the area especially if you have an interest in the orient .

On the recommendation of friends we took our grandchildren, aged 5 & 6, not really knowing what to expect not only were we told the entrance fee was only £3 for the 4 of us.The displays and the children's areas are full of interesting and educational information. We will definitely be returning

We half heartedly visited not expecting much but what a great place! Hidden gem not advertised properly, loved the room full of Egyption artefacts.

The museum is very easy to find and the staff are very knowledgeable. We went to see the Japanese craft demonstrations but were pleased to be able to join in and make our ownmodel. Very educational but a lot of fun. Go wwhen they have a craft demonstration.

Lovely museum. Full of some beautiful artefacts, and a wealth of information. Small cafe and gift shop. Good hour spent there, for only 1.50 admission fee. Well worth it.

Great place to take children to explore the mysteries of the orient. Small area for drinks, little gift shop. Some great activities at weekends and during school holidays
