This is an area of exceptional beauty and only 20 miles from pageGlasgow. There is Castle Semple loch where you can go sailing, windsurfing and rowing. The visitor centre is good for a light snack. From here you can take many walks. Most can be done for people with limited disability. This area is only a tip of the iceberg and to see all the attractions I would recommend you go to their web site. Highly recommend, especially during the week, when it is quiet.

Couldn't recommend Muirshiel more. They have several well defined, beautiful and not too challenging trails near the centre with plenty more further afield for the more serious walker. The staff are also delightful and happy to help if you are unsure of where to start.

I went on an ranger led tour with the children from my nursery Hillview Nursery in ferguslie park. The activities are free which I think is great and the rangers are fab really knowledgeable!! The area is beautiful with lots of scope for exploration - would be good for recreating stories such as 3 billy goats gruff, we're going on a bear hunt and the gruffalo- this is something we plan to do in the future. At this workshop the children took part in bug hunts, exploring sea creatures, den making, making paper boats and paddling in a small river. All of the children loved this outing as did the ladies :)! I enquired about the rangers coming to our nursery to help create habitats for wildlife in our environment as we are lucky to have lots of greenery around us and they were more the accommodating. I can't wait to return with the children and also my own family such a lovely place. You should try.... Great for adventures.

Great day out, fantastic scenery and the wild flora and fauna in abundance. Facilities and information centre are easily accessible and lots of leaflets etc all about Muirshiel.

Woodland and moorland walks. Climb the highest peak in Renfrewshire. Stunning natural place with toilet facilites available during day light hours and shop selling hot drinks and goodies open weekend in winter and all summer long. Great for adventures with kids, geocaching, building up stamina for long distance walks and an SPA for Hen Harriers with a live camera project running when birds nesting. Car parking free and walks open all year.

Knowing I was heading for a big night out, I decided to take my son, then six, for a Saturday morning romp around Muirshiel Country Park and possibly even a hike up Windy Hill if we, OK, I was feeling up to it. The drive up to Muirshiel has always been a bit of a bone shaker and ever slightly scary in parts due to the single lane size road; however the last two winters have certainly taken their toll and I was concerned for the tyres and sump on my beloved car! On arrival we headed down towards the water, stopping to read the interesting facts along the way, about the various wildlife the park rangers are encouraging to the area. As it had started to rain we decided to head into the denser part of the park and through the woods for some shelter. The recitation of Julia Donaldson's 'The Gruffalo' is a must for young children visiting this part of Muirshiel! When we exited the woods we headed for Windy Hill, a satisfying and fairly easy climb and well rewarding when you get to the top! We had a great couple of hours rambling around in waterproofs and hiking boots, which really are a must on all but the nicest of days, before heading back to the car via the visitor's centre. Facilities in the centre are basic, but clean and the shop has anything you may need from drinks and bagged snacks to little souvenirs that won't break the bank. All in all we had a brilliant day and Muirshiel Park would have scored top marks from us if it weren't for the state of the road, which is pretty dire!
