I went to bring back a book called, ironically, The Book Thief! I forgot that the hours are changed and it opens from 1pm on Tuesdays. The cuts are quite inconvenient, they took away Tuesday mornings. The other days it still opens from 10am. I always feel like its a home away from home. When I started living here, I saw on the wall this unusual art piece, it was this painting of the war dead of the town. It was by Steve Diamond. I thought it was an old man had done it! It did intrigue me, I'd never seen that kind of painting technique. I was lucky and got to meet him, I now know he's not an old man. What I found about the library was that it was a wonderful place to have a chat and get to know people. The library was a gateway for the whole of Whitehead. Hazel was wonderful. The new staff are great, they work very hard. There is a lovely atmosphere in there. They are always redecorating to focus on events through the year, the latest display was for Holocaust Memorial Day.It was rebuilt a few years ago, so they were temporarily in a little room where the laundry is now, it was so small! The new building is great, there is room in a front hall for buggies, bicycles or someone's dog. I had my photo taken there with a big group of people who were interviewed for the Living Memories book.

The opening hours have changed again:Sunday, Monday, Thursday – closed.Tuesday 1pm to 8pmWeds 10am-1pm; and 1.30-5pmFrid 10am-1pm; and 1.30-5pmSat 10am-1pm; and 1.30-4.30pmThis looks complicated, but the good news is that Tuesday evening opening until 8pm is back. I am in there nearly every week that one night. I use the computers, newspapers, printer and their toilet. Its a great place to get work done, especially when you’re helping other people. You can find a quiet table around a corner, or a comfy chair with company. There's even a web cam now for using Skype.I also came here to attend a book launch and a 3D printer demonstration. They do lots of regular and special events. A board in the entrance hall tells you about upcoming events. You can park buggies or even tether the dog there. All on a level / wheelchair friendly. The staff are excellent.

My 4 year old daughter loves visiting here and can't wait to read all 9 books she gets at any one time so she can go back and get more. I also never have ink in my printer so it's great that I can nip in and use the one there for last minute important things such as boarding passes. If this place ever closed it would have a knock on effect for all generations!!!

I can not stress enough how valuable this service to my teenage daughter and myself. The staff are always there to help.

I cannot overstate my admiration and respect for this invaluable local learning resource and staff. It is a community hub and a beacon of light in the dark days of winter

My two children are now 11 and 9 and have been going to Whitehead library since they were babies. They see the library as a safe, inviting, friendly and welcoming place. They are so disappointed however, that they can no longer go as often as they would like as opening hours have been severely cut. I really don't think library bosses realise the negative impact curtailing children's access to books and facilities has. Cutting opening hours says 'reading isn't important'. If you visit Whitehead go in, read the daily papers and relax for a wee hour and you'll see how friendly and essential this library is.

I live in Whitehead and whd library is one of the places I visit most. Not just for me but my boys love it too! I never thought my kids would appreciate books so much but they do & the library is so useful. There have been a few challenging homeworkers with my eldest but the library was a huge help... Peace to work in but more importantly fantastic resource. Plus if there was anything they didn't have they would help find it or ordered it in. The late opening hours was great (it's been stopped :( ) since my kids don't stop school till 3pm. The staff are really lovely & friendly, always happy to help where it's with books or computers related. Also, who doesn't like a fab service for free & staff willing to work a Saturday!!!!! Over all am excellent place!!! At start of doing review trip advisor says i have to say the date I visited but I can't say almost every day....

When the grandkids come down to Whitehead, they now ask to go to the Library. The area at one end is great for kids. We can all sit on the play mat and read, do puzzles or be read too. There is a large amount of colouring material for the raining day. It has a small and homely feel yet is big on selection and quality of books. And we can lend books to take home and read. My eldest grand daughter is top of her class in reading now and loves books. I would put that down to Whitehead Library. She lives in a city with an even larger library but has never visited. It's a great addition to the town.

There are cuts going on, please note the changes to the opening hours of the wonderful library in Whitehead:Sunday, Monday and Thursday: closedTuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 10am-1pm; 2-5pmSaturday: 10am-1pm; 1.30-4.30pmSo Tuesday nights are gone, and it's shut earlier on a Saturday. This is a pity, I hope it gets back to normal, so many people love this wee library and depend on it. The staff are very good, I like to see all the different newspapers, and children love the storytime sessions that run here. It also has a nice, clean toilet and wifi for anyone who wants that.

Staff are so friendly, welcoming and helpful. They've just received some new books. You never know what you'll find! Daily newspapers and magazines are also available, as are computers. You can also ask the librarians to send a fax for you or scan a document to a USB stick or send it to your email account. There are lots of events such as Knit and Natter every Wednesday morning, Rhythm, Rhyme for pre-schoolers and Storytime and Crafts sessions for 4-8 year-olds. These are often advertised, as are classes for adults too. All events are free. This is a great free resource for our vibrant village. The staff work extremely hard with ever-increasing pressures imposed by reductions in both staff and hours, following recent government budget cuts to libraries. Would be great if you could pop in and show your support! You'll probably enjoy your visit too!
