This installation is very thought provoking. From a distance it looks like a field of quietly moving demonstrators of all ages. Up close the stick figures have been dressed beautifully and imaginatively. (The clothes are changed seasonally). Walking amongst the figures was very a very calming experience and made us feel quite reflective.

It's easy to assess with which is situated on the main road when you going north from Suomussalmi to Kuusamo. You won't miss it as this art cover large area at the road side. We love this so much and know that the clothing is changed regularly! Funny!

Luckily our route took us by The Silent People- very impressive. there are about 1000 figures topped with sod "heads""- dressed in all manner of clothing. This installation is about 20 years old and gets seasonal changes of clothing. It is very interesting and compelling to walk thru the field of figures. It is actually one of the highlights of our visit to Finland

Stopped here by this field to see the installation The Silent People. It was well worth the stop. These hundreds of "scarecrows" were quite a sight in the middle of countryside. There was also a small cafe + souvenir shop.I don't know if there are other ways of getting there than with your own transportation.

Последний раз остановились здесь в августе 13-го, летом можно легко бродить и дойти до самого дальнего края композиции, там с краю и обнаружили голенькую чучелку, сбегал до машины и притащил футболку - одел его(или её),в 1-й раз были здесь в январе 2008-го( тогда ничего не знали про этот объект, проезжая мимо тормозил до юза что б развернуться и посмотреть - лазали по пояс в снегу...) а этим летом специально ехали мимо..довольно просторная парковочка, туалет системы "сортир", афиши предстоящих мероприятий и фотографии с прошедших концертов и прочих мероприятий, есть пара столиков с лавками - попили чайку из термоса с бутербродами и в путь.зимой это выглядело довольно зловеще, летом жизнерадостно...и этот народец кто то переодевает по сезону....посетить однозначно стоит - времени потратите немного и прям на дороге почти...

"The silent people" moet je eens van nabij gezien hebben als je op weg bent naar Kuusamo via Suomussalmi. Dit is zeker een van de trekpleisters in de omgeving waardoor het een bezoekje waard is.Er is tevens een bar aanwezig die geopend is tot midden augustus. In de maand september wordt de kledij van the silent people gewisseld naar hun winterkledij.Toiletten aanwezig.
