A bit far out of town, on a road that isn't the best quality, we highly recommend this visit. English was no problem, the bears were plentiful, each with their own personality. We walked slowly through the sanctuary for about an hour with the guide-- it is very important to show up when the tours start each day!

The sanctuary is a project conducted by World Animal Protection from UK. It is recognized by experts to be one of the best brown bear sheltter in the World. It covers 69 acres and it is the home of 75 maltreated ( by humans) bears. It is privatley funded. It is not too far from Bucharest and it is very close to the city of Brasov. Typicly, the signage to the place is almost inexistent. Was great learning about the all the hard work that is being done to help these bears. Some have been mistreated for many years and it is great to see so much passion to see them happy. Some of the bears still carry the signs of their abuse, but it is clear that their quality of life has vastly improved. Great cause.

A few friends and I visited the bear sanctuary in Zarnesti on a cold day in November. The tour guide spoke perfect English and was patient with all of our many questions. We felt like the tour was informative and long enough to enjoy the experience. All eighty of these bears have been rescued from dire situations and their stories are heartbreaking; however each of them is receiving wonderful care now. Visiting the sanctuary is a great way to support the cause and have a unique Transylvania experience.

The bear sanctuary has 79 bears rescued from different places. Each bear has an interesting, but sad story. The good thing is that all their stories have happy end...they enjoy living in this great place.

The bear sanctuary houses bears from all the world who have been rescued from cruel owners and terrible circumstances. The owners of the sanctuary were very kind and compassionate, and it was really inspiring seeing the bears run freely. Lots of the bears are friendly, and often play and wrestle with each other. If you want to see some beautiful animals in a natural environment, definitely stop here. Also, buy a souvenir: all money goes towards the bears!

This is such great organization! We went in January and were the only people there. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable with great English! The bears seem very well looked after with very large enclosures, although their stories are very sad :( We were happy to hear about each bear's progress and improvements since coming to the sanctuary. There's even a wolf! You can get so close to these big guys too! Makes for great photos! Keep up the good work guys!!! X

We visited on our last morning in Brasov, it's a sad tales of what people will do to animals for their own gain or amusement, however these bears, around 70 and 1 wolf are now able to live in safety. The cost of entry goes into the running of the sanctuary. We had an hour's tour and got to see feeding time as we were finishing up.

On the day we went tours were at 10am 11am and 12. We arrived by car, there's a small info sign on the right off the main road between Brasov and Zarnesti. The staff were very interested, knowledgeable and caring about the bears and the life saving work they do, relying on donations only for the expensive running costs.The bears were treated with the greatest respect and each had a story of abuse at the hands of humans. At least these dedicated people are making a difference, not only by saving the bears life but by raising awareness and educating about conservation instead of abuse of wildlife.There is a giftshop where you can support this deserving charity.Well done to all the staff there. Keep up the great work!

See the bears enjoying life roaming in the forest free from chains and cages. All the bears have been rescued from people who kept them for supposedly entertainment for the public. Lovely place to visit.
