It´s located in a park. Strange sculptures to us, but maybeinteresting fo rpeople who like modern art.

A wonderful creative and peaceful siting outside Umea's city center. It's easily accessed by bus though and well worth the effort! There is no entry fee and you can visit at any hour of the day, especially in summertime, since it never gets dark at night.

This was a huge disappointment. A few sculptures in a vast institution garden. Not worth the long bus trip

A bit hidden in Umedalen, near Umeå we discovered the sculpture exhibition on the grounds of a former psychiatric hospital. Scattered throughout the park you can find an interesting collection of modern sculptures, some in plain sight, some you have to seach for, such a collection of coats in the treetops or a horse on a chimney. If you want to see them all, make sure you have plenty of time. If you are into modern art, this is a must-see in the Umeå area, definitely worth a detour.

I visited in the summer of 2013, and quite enjoyed the sculptures, all set in a park landscape around a collection of red buildings, the look of which my husband described as something from a prisoner of war camp. And it is odd. What is most strange is that there is no plaque, no sign, no nothing to explain what this place was, a large, major psychiatric hospital that still strikes fear into many people. As someone with a relative who spent some time there it felt creepy, and profoundly disrespectful to all the ex patients who spent time there that there was no acknowledgement of the place and them at all. Umedalen was at one time one of the places that carried out vast numbers of lobotomies, including on some very young children. Do visit, but bear in mind what the place was. The walls around it are gone, but not the memories.

You must be really open-minded and a modern art lover to visit this museum. After I arrived in Umedalen it took me a while to realize that the museum is actually a residential neighborhood and you have to search for the masterpieces. At the end, it was fun..

It is a very nice place to walk around, but definitely during summer! And it is modern art. The walk takes around 1 hour if yo want to see all. Maybe it is not high top attraction but it is worth to see in Umeå and every second year they add sculptures from new artists. This year, they had new ones from a Spanish artist and they were the most interesting in the whole park. I recommend to have a rest there and maybe even lunch in the park. You can touch sculptures and feel them, so it is also a good place for children, they shouldn't get bored so quickly. But I recommend it most to those who are interested in art. There is a restaurant in the park, but it is open only for lunch 12-14 and then from 16 I think, so it is good to keep in mind!

...on a sunny summer day! This sculpture park is open all year around, but preferrably visited in the summer. If you go there in the Swedish winter you may find the sculptures covered in snow and ice, and therefore hard to watch and enjoy. The park stretches over a rather wide area, and you find sculptures in, sometimes, unexpected places. A nice place to explore and enjoy, even with kids. The sculptures are not fragile, so children can play or run around without damageing them. Free activity! In the park area there is also an art gallery, which might be interesting for those interested in contemporary Swedis art.
