Gävle's County Museum is one of the best provincial museums I've seen. Its collection of art extends from the 19th century to the present; it also has an archeological and historical section showing finds from the district and historical reconstructions of rooms and historical documentation of Gävle's industrial past. The collection is laid out thematically, not chronologically. The museum has a good café and small but good quality shop, featuring local handicrafts and books. It should be a must on any visitor's list.

We were surprised at how much this museum has to offer, given that there is no admission fee! Modern and classical art, handcrafts, silver, and a terrific exhibit on changing trends (fashion, interior design, etc). We especially liked the exhibit on Gavle's history as a Läkerol factory town. Bear in mind, this is a small city museum, so don't go in expecting the Louvre or MOMA. It is a well-designed space and worth the couple hours it'll take to see it all.

If you want to know Gavle and its history you must visit this small local museum. Gavle was a big deal at one time and has a glorious and interesting history. The museum also features some painting by local artists that will help you get more understanding of local life

Consists mostly of old paintings and boring exhibition. Where's the history? It's a disgrace.

A place you can return to plenty of times. Nice little museum near town centre. Great selection of Swedish artists, throughout the centuries. A neat exhibition of the designer Gunnar Cyrén.

This is a special museum in Gavle. Very fun for the kids and the spaces in the museum is relaxing. The tour guide can speak English and we really longed for it.

Gävle museum har en väldigt fin samling konst, väl värt ett besök. Inför jul har man en pepparkakshusutställning med bl a ett hus som är över tre meter högt. Här finns en separatutställning med Gunnar Cyrens glas och silver. I en separat sal pågår alltid separata utställningar med olika teman. Fika går ett köpa.

Länsmuseets konstsamling är fantastisk - den kan man se nästan hur många gånger som helst. Varje gång jag besöker Gävle så besöker jag museet (gratis inträde försvårar ju inte det hela).

Länsmuseet i Gävle har några fina permanenta utställningar såsom godisindustrin samt den mycket fina porslinsutställningen. Även intressant del om sjöstaden i historien.

Passar bra att göra en regnig dag. Inget speciellt som sticker ut.Dock är det gratis och det går ju inte att klaga på.
