A spectacular mountain, with breathtaking scenery - A variety of routes to explore - If you are not familiar with map reading, or you are a novice hillwalker, I would recommend that you use a guide - Mor Active in Killarney have a ealth of experience behind them! Enjoy it all!!

Not an easy climb, but worth it. Great views from the top, as you would expect. Not for the faint hearted though

Long hard climb but it is the highest peak in Ireland! I won't lie is hard but on a clear day the view & the satisfaction when you reach the top is worth it!! We went up & down the Devils ladder, touch slow climb but most direct route up. Highly recommend completing this climb at least once in your life!!

Loved the views when the clouds cleared.Hated the Devils Ladder. It's the shortest way up and down, but coming down is a pain in the bee hind.

That mountain even it's only 1040m is very hard to climb to. there are two ways to approach it and we've heard that Devil'd Ladder is one recommended for tourists...well maybe in summer as during winter with snow its for professionals only! Its a nice stroll though till the base of the mountain.

It's great to start early in the morning so you have plenty of time to stay at the top and stop so now and than. The Devil's ladder is a serious climb that takes some focus but a every person with a average condition is able to do it. It's recommended to descend not via de Devil's ladder but the route that is west from the ladder (flanking the mountain).

If you are a walker, I beleive this would be magical. If you are in a car and it's raining, it's a mountain. When the snow falls it us very pretty, but then so us any mountain with snow cads.

Carrantoohil is Ireland highest mountain at 1,038 metres (3,406 ft) high and is the central peak of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks range. Even so it is accessible to most able-bodied people. Its tough going at times and there is a LONG walk across until you reach the foot of the Devils ladder!! You don't notice it on the way as the anticipation of the climb has the adrenaline flowing (but on the way back its not as nice, knowing what remains!!) Devils ladder is very tough and loose rock is quite dangerous so you need to be aware of your surroundings. Once you get to the top of the ladder it is FREEZING so make sure you wrap up well. It must be a wind tunnel!! After that the climb is tough but prepare yourself for the most magnificent view when you get above the cloud. This view is what helps you reach the summit!! We were lucky enough to be there when they re-erected the Cross after it was vandilised!! It really is well worth it, Ive done it twice...would I do it again....Im not sure I have the heart!!

Brilliant experience with Kerry Climbing guide, who took great care to ensure that we took a reasonable route along a challenging climb. Very enjoyable with a lifelong memory at the end of the day.
