We traveled down to Cavan ww1 museum with our history group(S.A.S.H) Shankill Area Social History. We found the museum very interesting as down south the war was never really talked about. It is only lately that you could have remembered the brave soldiers from Southern Ireland who fought and died for the freedom we have today.

We had a great time at the museum. We started with the trenches and could not get over the amount of work that went into buildng them. It was such a learning experience. The museum is excellent with something for everyone. It was very inexpensive a great day out.

Being in the area we decided to visit the cavan county museum. The building houses some great artefacts over a number of floors and they are extremely wide ranging. Admission is very reasonable 3 euro per adult. However, the World War 1 trench experience and exhibition is amazing and worth the visit alone. If you are in the area make sure that you visit the Cavan County Museum.

We spent a pleasant couple of hours visiting. There are 3 floors of exhibits with lots of easy to read information and interactive exhibits covering the history of banners, The Famine, Emigration and general history. The recreated first world war trenches were also worth walking through. Our only criticism was we were unable to get a coffee in the cafe as it was being used for a large boisterous sewing club who looked like they were really enjoying their activity but left no room for visitors.

Though small it is worth a visit. The re-enactment of a world war one trench is of a very high standard and credit to the museum staff and designers. A hive of local history worth seeing and staff are friendly and helpful.

Fairly small museum in the middle of Cavan county. Weparticularly enjoyed the displays on emigration - they were very educational.

The museum was very interesting, with a great variety of Irish historical info. There were plenty of artefacts to keep you amused, especially related to GAA.By FAR, my favourite part of the museum was outside. The trench attraction. It was a series of trenches dug out with snippets of info about trench warfare and the lives of the soldiers in them. You could really feel and understand how these people lived, thanks to the extremely realistic construction. A must see, especially if it's lashing rain :)

..... with the largest replica trench system in the British Isles outside. Whilst the museumn is a bit out of Cavan, it is with a visit. Well researched Breast War exhibition inside together with reseasrcvh on the local aristocratic Farnham family.
